Canon IR8500 Fuser upper roller has a bit missing all the way around about 1/4 " wide. I have no idea at this point what caused the ring of missing material around the roller. It prints but leaves a stripe of toner that is not fused and rubs off. Do I need to replace the fuser unit, the roller, or something else?

ok if you are getting peices of rubber on the pabe it could be the fuser rollers.. this unit comes out easy.. looking at the unit there are 2 screws on both ends looking back at you... remove the screws and the unit lifts strait up once its out you can see the rollers much better. it is either comming apart or the teflon could be sliding off. if it looks ok you may need to run the paper thru slower it may not be fusing good 2 ways to do it try the bypass and select heavy 1 or you can set the cassette for heavy under add func common settings paper settings...

YES this parts is for cleaning purposes to collect toner that was building on the pressure roller .replacement of this assembly is needed if thick toner waste accumulates on the roller
