Water in the exhaust vent pipe, and is shutting off the heater

there is drain point on flu where joins onto heater also if flu angled slightly downhill will drain access water from it, because they are efficient heaters the condensate in flu which needs to be drained away and if water in flu the heater will shut down sounds like it may be installed incorrect due to not reading installation instructions all gas heaters are different and installers just expect to install the same as the last it doesn't work like that they need to follow instruction of book, i would call rinnai and if possible get their service agent to look at heater for you and charge installer

Error code 12

Three main causes.

Short circuit on the low voltage side of the wiring (12V) This will show as an immeadiate error code 12 befoe the thing even tries to light.

Faulty earth on the low voltage side shows same as above.

A faulty gas regulator or partial blockage of gas supply that allows the unit to fire, but will not maintain sufficient gas supply to keep it alight. This will happen after it has lit, maybe erratically with the occasional error code 11 if you try and re-light immeadiately.

Rinnai Heater - error message "12"

An error code of 12 on your heater means a flame failure has occured. It could be the following: Flame Rod dirty, Obstruction in burner, improper gas pressure, or a bad ignitor board. I am suggesting you get a technician who is familiar with Rinnai products to check out the above items.

Piping of these heaters in tandem is critical. Specified by Rinnai in their design manual, the cold water should be piped to both water heaters with a back-flow presenter installed before the first heater. The hot out piping should be "Tee-d" together and going to your hot water needs.

If piped as per the manual, try turning the water off to only one of the units. Turn on a hot water tap and see if the unit stays on without interruption. Then try the same on the second unit. You may find that one unit has a bad flow control, which is shutting off the flow of water.

You can get more technical help y contacting Rinnai direct at 1-800-621-9419 ext. 207.
