This is fairly common. If you don't perform a fix soon, you'll end up with burn lines. Follow this link. Pay particular attention to the soldering part, not the dismantling. A lot of plasmas from the last few years used a LG board made in Korea. The TV in question in this forum is a Hyundai, which is, yep you guessed it, KOREAN. So the pictures of the ribbons are accurate. Don't let someone try to sell you a fix. This site is supposed to be everyone helping everyone else out. SHAME ON YOU DAVE FOR SELLING HERE!

There are lots of folk here that would be happy to do that same thing for free. No question that Dave may be a nice guy, I just think that if you're going to post a "I have a fix for you" in a free forum, it should be just that. FREE. I'd be happy to walk you through the dismantle and repair of this TV for nothing other than a thank you. People that are offering a pay service belong in the service section of craigslist or their local classifieds. I am sure Dave has spent exhaustive work putting together fantastic repair instructions. But a pay service doesn't belong here.

Axle80, I have one big issue with your comment because sure your right, this site is designed for free of charge help but there's one issue with that. Where can you go and get help to the extent at which Dave explains it. For one, any free help does not usually include a detailed instruction sheet on how to take care of the problem from the second u take off the first bolt to the moment u turn it back on. And to be honest paying for a $80 dollar fix to repair a $1500 dollar TV IF NOT MORE is a bargain. Dave is a great guy, i met him today because i called him about an issue i have with my Toshiba and he has been nothing but helpful. You wont meet another person like that in the next 100 people you call that are willing to walk you through stuff on their time.

Which part of my sharp 42 inch hdtv would most likely cause my screen to have a 2 inch line right down the middle

If the line is black the display panel may be the issue. This is the entire screen unit and fatal from a cost point of view.

A black line running verticall down the middle of

There is no invertor board on a plasma tv. The fault is the X address buffer board. This is located on the bottom of the screen and runs horizontally the whole width of the screen. If you remove the heatsink plate that covers the x address boards and you need to look at the screen ribbon at the same position as where the bar is (in the middle).Vary gently lift the Xbuffer ribbon lock and gently take out the ribbon.Clean the contacts very carefully with a fibre pen or an electrical cleaning fluid.Insert ribbon back and heatsink and check. Here is a picture of the board and ribbon

a 1 inch bar is associates with 1 ribbon fault. So if the bar was 3 inches in from the left of the screen, the faulty ribbon will be 3 inches in from the right working from behind the TV. If cleaning dont cure the fault, then the Buffer IC will be blown and order a new centre buffer board (you can buy off Ebay)

I have a vertical black line on the middle of the

You have A buffer board out if the line goes up and down then its the long board going left from right look were the line is and see what board the line lines up on the screen and replace that one

these boards are the closet to the edge of the tv

same process if the line goes across the screen

look for the part number on the board and search with google or go to shopjimmys.com and seach there or call them
