Emachine t5048 slow from login to desktop access/clock lag spikes

In past 3 weeks my computer has gotten progressively slower from login to desk top access...takes almost 45-50 mins now.
Have run several recommended scans from Windows Live One Care to rule out virus.
Have upgraded svc pack from sp2 to sp3.
Have been noticing that there are continuous and frequent lag spikes in clock time which I believe are freezing up processes temp until clock catches up to correct time.
Noticed when installing addtl memory that there is a batter inside hard drive...could this be the problem?
Also noticed that I can no longer here fan running...could this be the problem?
Emachine will be 2 yrs old at Christmas 08.
Thank you for your help!

I have one of these POC T5048's. Always slow to startup even when brought out of hibernation. My sister has one too. Same problems. Have a look on internet. These have bad reviews. Not very fast considering it's a P4 / 3.06 GHz. My 7 year old Sony VAIO runs circles around the T5048 and it only has a 2.0 GHz AMD Athlon processor!! Wish I would have done my homework before purchasing. I just restored it to original condition with the factory disk and just ordered a 1GB memory stick to add to the 512MB it came with. We'll see if this helps any.

The chatter in the hard drive could mean that it has a problem and it may be on it's way out.
The Fan being out is definitely a serious problem and the unit should not be used till the fan is replaced.
Once you correct the fan situation, you need to update and run your Anti-virus program. Download CCleaner, WinPatrol . Install and run them also.

I had a client's PC that was running slow and it was because of Windows Live One Care. I removed it and cleaned it up and got it back to normal.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

How do i reset my emachine t5048 to factory setting without the windows boot disc?

Some computers will have a recovery partition you can recover from it will prompt you as the computer is booting. Emachines are very low end computers and don't typically have a recovery partition. If you didn't create the recovery disc you will need to order it from Gateway's website as they own emachine. You can order recovery media from https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=emachines

My desk top comp was purchased in 09, the last couple of months it has kept getting slower and slower, green screens will apper and I will have to restart the computer. this past week it has been...

Hi,

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot login to windows and

Go to 'Start' and then Run
write "msconfig" inside Run tab and press 'enter'
inside the 'System configuration utility' window click on 'startup' tab then uncheck all the applications except your current antivirus and press apply then 'ok' and then 'exit without restart' option.

Now right click My Computer and go to properties tab.
click 'Advanced' tab then under performance menu click on 'settings'
go to 'Advanced' click on 'change' and increase your virtual memory to 2048 in both spaces.
Now restart windows.

To quickly restart windows press CNTRL+ALt+DEL
inside task manager you will find all the open applications.
right click on each application and click on end process tree then ok

Close all your apps like this and you will find your windows a lot faster and now you can reboot or turn off your windows as usual from start button.

Next time you login to windows your issues will be resolved.

If you feel that my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

Have issues with desktop freezing up and or slowing after I changed power otions. It used to cut out all together. It is an Emachine T5048

You should check your fan isnt clogged up with anything.

If its still slow it may be a virus problem. Scan your computer .

If this still continues then re-install windows

How to put the recovery partition back on the emachines t5048

As far as i know the only way is to run the restore disk from emachine that is for your model computer. (it usually wipes the computers hard disk in the process.)

the link below will take you to their support site for drivers.

on that site look for eMachines Recovery Media Purchase Program and you can see about ordering the recovery disk that you need.

My sound card is not installed on my computer because i did the recovery. where can i download one? it's a eMachines windows XP T Series T5048

Here's a link to the Emachine support page for your model. Scroll down to audio section and you should be able to download your sound drivers. If the sound still doesn't work after doing this download the chipset drivers and then try downloading the audio drivers again. Sometimes you need the chipset drivers first before the audio drivers will work. http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T%20Series&model=T5048
