my playstation3 will not read disc can you tell me whats wrong

When powering up the ps3 can only see a wavy thick stripe across the screen. There is also a luminated trash can light on the back of the console???? What is the repair for this issue?

Ok i have good news and bad news. The good news is you don't have to send it to sony for 150 bucks, you can fixs it and i will tell you. Ok it could take a few times but all you have to do is hold the turn on button hold it for a few secs remember it will take a few times but it works.Now the bad news it will come up with a few options do restore system, now you will lose all your saves and you will have to sign up for ps3 network again (if you had it) bu i does save you a 150 bucks right. Well i hope this helps it did for me.

K the thick wave appears but no other lights are on besides the main power button(green) Nothing will load from there and the ps3 will not allow you to manually shut it off, you have to turn of the system completely.

i went to update my PS3 with that tomb raider underworld game and now my PS3 turns on and the log on screen comes up but the pictures of the usernames don't and when they do, the controller turns on but no buttons work. I don't know what to do, does anybody here?

My problem is that when I turn my ps3 on it sits there for a couple of mins doing nothing. Then it says sony entertainment, but when that goes away the wavy lines still stay in the backround for ever! I was wondering if some one knew what is going wrong! Thanks!!

I have t seem deal also. a still black screen with a single trash line that comes across it. I called Sony and their method of resetting the PS3 didn't work. They said it would cost 150 to repair. Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
