Computer turns on, but won't work afterwords

I start the computer, It says compaq, then makes two loud beeps, and another screen shows up saying press f1 or f10. Nothing on the keyboard seems to work other than the power button (no caps lock, etc.) I've tried plugging in another keyboard, and that doesn't work. Please help

If there is 3 short beeps then that is the memory!
2 short beeps means something else............... here is a web link for you to have a look at that concerns the 2 beeps:

good luck

Nev, the two loud beeping sound of the system when turning it on could be a problem with the memory or the system board.

Try disconnecting the power and take out the battery, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then look for the memory comparment and reseat it.

Keep me posted.

How do I get my Hitachi xl 1000, 1TB HDD to read on my computer? I turn it on and plug it in and all i get are loud noises from it and the occasional beep, It wont read

  • Does your computer kind of pause and acts like it thinking about connecting to the drive? If you go to the My Computer icon (on your desktop or in Start), and click over it to get the drop down menu, and find/click the "Manage" menu selection. Once the system manager starts, click on the Disk Management. See if your Hitachi drive is listed as "uninitialized" or if it shows up at all. If the former, then consider initializing it (assuming this is a new disk).
  • Otherwise, it sounds like a bad drive. Usually, modern drives produce a either a beep or a snap/click when you first turn them on. Afterwords, it should be a low level hum, some are barely audible. If the loud noises last more than 5 seconds, or sound like something is grinding against something else, you should return it, if it's under warranty.
  • If it's out of warranty and has data, you might consider some company that does data recovery from dead drives. But they tend to be expensive.

My acer wont load when i first turn on, or load, gives 2 loud beep

Sounds like the hard drive is going bad. Take out the hard drive and see if the laptop behaves like that if it doesn't then you know the hard drive is bad. If it still does then it could be a motherboard problem.. With it making those beeping noises when you first turn it on, they keyboard could be going bad because that would make a laptop start beeping like that as well.

Your power and data system need inspection inside the MoBo. Hardware problems produce warning beeps, especially RAM and VIDEO. Check these first to make sure they are in slots.

Does it show anything on the screen while it's beeping??????

Please provide more information and come back
