Computer turns on, but won't work afterwords

I start the computer, It says compaq, then makes two loud beeps, and another screen shows up saying press f1 or f10. Nothing on the keyboard seems to work other than the power button (no caps lock, etc.) I've tried plugging in another keyboard, and that doesn't work. Please help

If there is 3 short beeps then that is the memory!
2 short beeps means something else............... here is a web link for you to have a look at that concerns the 2 beeps:

Hi,

Nev, the two loud beeping sound of the system when turning it on could be a problem with the memory or the system board.

Try disconnecting the power and take out the battery, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then look for the memory comparment and reseat it.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

You possibly cracked your screen or caused the ribbon cable to disconnect when you dropped it and just can't see what the error codes are saying. Is probably asking you if you'd like to start in safe mode with the beeps but you can't see it with a cracked screen or disconnected ribbon cable. Take it to a repair shop for a diagnosis.

My acer wont load when i first turn on, or load, gives 2 loud beep

Sounds like the hard drive is going bad. Take out the hard drive and see if the laptop behaves like that if it doesn't then you know the hard drive is bad. If it still does then it could be a motherboard problem.. With it making those beeping noises when you first turn it on, they keyboard could be going bad because that would make a laptop start beeping like that as well.

Won't start up

Hi there.
If the beep is a short beep then there is nothing wrong with the PC, just enter the bios utility, set the date and time, save the changes and exit the bios.
The computer will restart and should boot straight through to windows.
Please post back if you need anymore help or advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Screen won't appear upon start up and I get 3 beeps but no screen

3 beeps POST code (power on self test) means RAM problem.
Reseat the RAM module/s and boot up your computer.
If you have two RAM modules, remove them both and insert one at a time to test them, to determine which module is faulty.
If it still doesn't work then replace the RAM module/s

If you shut it down when WinFlash was running, then bad news - BIOS corrupted. This means faulty motherboard. Solution - replace motherboard.
