Question about Sharp Projection Televisions

Re: Sharp LC19DV24U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with Built In DVD Player: I have had this t.v. for less than a year. Last night while playing a DVD I noticed for the first time a series of slanted dots on the bottom of the screen plus a white line about two inches long in the upper right quadrant. The dots on the bottom are slanted in the arrangement of 3/4/3/3/3. What am I to think of this? Should I expect the entire screen to go bad soon? These dots do not show up while we are watching just the t.v. Please tell me what has happened; what to expect and what remedy I can seek.

I'll go by what ginko says. I guess I wish I knew if the symptoms I described have shown up on other people's tvs like mine. But I'll do what ginko says.

Thank you again, Guru Ginko! I feel lots better now that I know I should maybe use a disc cleaner. I think I have one.

If the TV is less than one year old call the service number listed on the owner manual to get the TV fixed or replaced.

Dots of this kind are because of a bad digital stream from disk , or from signal.
When the digital signal that draws the movie picture on your display is bad, you get dots , lines and pixelation.

If the dots are visible only when you watch a DVD then it is likely a problem with the DVD lens, dirty or defective.

Try using a dvd cleaner like this one: Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner

If it does not work, plase notice that sharp offers one year factory guaranty on their products, give them a call using the phone number listed on the owner manual to get the TV fixed or replaced.

How do I go from 480p to 1080dpi on my 65inch HDTV

If you're using an HDMI cable your display will automatically adjust the settings based upon the video source. Make sure that your source is capable of outputting 1080p. If it's an HD Cable Box or DVR, the maximum resolution it can display is 1080i. If you have one of these HD boxes, set it to only display 1080i as there will be a delay every time you change channels from a channel that is not naturally at 1080i.
If your source is a standard DVD player, it can only display images in 480i (or 480p if it is Progressive Scan) and therefore your TV will display the picture in 480 resolution. If your source is an upconverting DVD player it will display up to 1080p however, Keep in mind that DVD's are in 480 resolution and that regardless of upconversion (or upscaling, though improved, the picture will not be in HD.
The only way to achieve a true 1080p (not dpi... that's dots per inch... that's a printer term. The "p" is for Progressive Scan as opposed to an "i" for Interlaced) is from a 1080p source, i.e., a Blu-Ray disc player playing a Blu-Ray Disc with the use of an HDMI cable. Component Cables can achieve 720p/1080i only with your TV as it does not support 1080p over component cables.
As an aside, there are some media players that support 1080p output and some DirecTV Boxes and DVR's d oas well for 1080p Pay Per View movies.

I have picture but no sound when connected thru hdmi using a panasonic blue ray Dvd player. It is working fine with my 42 inches sharp lcd.

Be sure you are not trying to use 1080p/60 from your Blu-Ray player to your Toshiba. You should connect the player to the Sharp, then set the output to 1080i... then move it over to the Toshiba.

How much is a 1998 26 inch Sharp tv worth?

If it is in good working condtion and looking very clean you may be able to get about $60 to $100 for it. Remember that there are new LCD TV sets that are very low in cost and will out perform your set.
I have seen some 24 inch models on sale for under $250 with a 3 year warranty. And, these sets will work in 16:9, has component inputs, and are packed with features.

In these times, people are trying to get rid of their CRT sets and change for the LCD types.

A 24 inch flat screen TV has about the same viewing as a 25 to 26 inch CRT TV.

Plays dvds on xbox 360 fine, but no picture for games/dashboard

already solved it. thanks. i couldn't see the xbox settings blade because of the blank screen so switched my component cable to the tv setting instead of the hdtv setting, then i could see the dashboard in non-hd and switched the resolution to 720p while simultaneously switching the component cable back to the hdtv setting. that worked.

Mintek 26 inch LCD HDTV with built-in-DVD remote not working

The reason you can't pull-up the Mintek website is because the company is out of business. I have one that is frozen on one channel and none of the buttons or remote will work. I took it to a repair shop and the said one of the circuit boards is bad but since the company is out of business they can't get the needed part. The only way to get the part is to find a set which can be cannabalized for the needed parts.

Picture

yes it could ba the cable itself even, but i suspect more the tuner circuit or tuner itself may have bad solder connections. Here is another test for you to try, plug another dvd or vcr, or xbox etc. into the back, using one odf the inputs. See if this works like the built in dvd. if so it will be more likely bad connections in the tuner or surrounding circuit. good luck.
