File/Folder Permission Message in Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus
Hello. I'm using Pinnacle Sudio Plus 188.8.131.5231 on Windows Vista. When I open any movie, I get a dialog box to 'Find Media' (pictures, specifically). When I select the movie file where the pics are, I get the message, "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission" The files are located under the path C:/User/Christy/Documents/Pinnacle Studio/My Projects - I AM the adminstrator.
What permission is it not seeing/does it not have?
I've tried Pinnacle support desk, with no luck....

Re: File/Folder Permission Message in Pinnacle Studio 11...
Hello welcome to FIxya!
Here you can check this procedure on how to open your files again.
"1) Check your Recycle Bin
2) Do a Folder/File Search for each of the Grey Folder Project
names. This will display all Folders & Files with that Project
Name. You are looking for an .stx File. If it's there, right-Click on
Project Name / Open Containing Folder & Copy it to your My Projects
Folder. Then you should have both the Grey Folder & .stx File for
the same Project name, showing in your My Projects Folder.
If the Search doesn't display a .stx File, you can create a new one,
by Opening a New empty Project, which will create a My Movie Grey
Folder & a My Movie .stx File, Save to your My Projects Folder.
Delete the My Movie Grey Folder & Rename the My Movie .stx File to
the same name as your original Grey Folder."
So ...after finding my "lost" movie file, with its file name, under
Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects i then went through the following
procedures using your great advice Colour;
Make a copy of your found "lost" movie grey film icon file by right
mouse clicking on your lost file and choosing "copy". Paste the copy
into another folder in Documents where you can find it if need be
Then go back to Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects and right
mouse click onto your grey film icon. Choose "rename". Then rename your
"lost" grey film icon to a new file name but do not put .stc at the end
of the file name, if you are operating VISTA and Pinnacle 12. This is
important because Pinnacle 12 won't recognise the file later if you
have .stc in the file name
Open Pinnacle and go to the File Menu
Click on New Project
Open File Menu again and click on Save File as
Give the file a name such as "Movie 7" and save it
Close out of Pinnacle
Open up Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects and observe that you
now have 2 new files there ...a grey film icon file saying Movie 7 AND
a coloured Pinnacle icon file saying Movie 7
Delete the grey icon file with the file name Movie 7
Now give your coloured Pinnacle icon file the exact same rename as
your precious "lost" renamed grey movie icon file, using the right
mouse click on rename proceedure as explained in No.2 above.
Close out of Documents file
Now open up Pinnacle again
Go to Menu and choose Open Project
There you will see the coloured Pinnacle icon file with the new name of your "lost" movie file.
Click onto its coloured Pinnacle icon, and watch your "lost" movie
come into view again

May 12th, 2008: Some customers reported problems installing Studio Plus version 11 UPGRADE (11.0) or Studio version 11 Standard (11.0) on systems with Windows XP Service Pack 3 was already installed (a message asking for Windows XP Service Pack 2 is displayed). Pinnacle is investigating this problem.
We can offer you the following workaround:
Copy all the content of the Installation DVD of Studio version 11 to your hard disk in a new folder.
Ok you need to UNZIP this file BEFORE you use it. Then go to the Unzipped file location, and then run the install/setup .exe. get Download, WinRAR this will uncompress/Unzip many formats.
I would suggest to you to finished edit your project and after that click on make movie tab or the number 3 tab of your Studio then do this procedure. Disc Type : DVD Audio Compression : PCM Video Quality : Automatic Use Progressive Encoding : NOT checked Always Re-encode Entire Movie: Checked Burn Options: Create Disc Content and then burn. Current Media : Should show what DVD Disc should be used. Target Media: DVD 4.7 GB Copies : 1 Write Speed: lowest possible
Suggest for that is to delete that part which is the transition then after that put a new one save it then try making a disc again. Another is if your Studio 11 not yet install the patch I suggest to you to visit Pinnacle web site then download the patch. http://pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Studio+Plus+11+Support/Download+Area/Drivers+-+Updates/Studio+11_1_2+patch.htm?mode=documents&Display=1
I have also been running into an MPEGENCODER.DLL error about 1/2 way through my 20 minute movie. I am able to Make Movie with a 6 minute version, but hitting this error time and time again. I have removed Virus protection and all unessential system tray loads; defragged drive; downloaded newest Windows drivers; downloaded newest NVIDIA drivers; running Win XP Pro SP3, Intel 3GHZ, 1GB RAM, 76GB/10K spin drive.
This applies for windows vista only please check the volume control on the lower right corner in your desktop. Try to click the volume control icon then click the MIXER then look for the pinnacle studio program probably it might be muted.
which operating system? in XP you can try to hit start menu, click on ALL Programs, then click on Startup folder if you see the window listed in that folder you can right click on it then choose delete from the pop down menu that opens. After that reboot and see if it.s gone bye, bye. Please rate this answer if it helps.
