Your suggestion to remove and replace cd card only confuses me more. The maps do not come up on screen. the garmin is charged, worked yesterday and now won't go past...no detailed maps found cannot be used. It's a Garmin 200w

  • ggnelson Nov 16, 2008

Your second suggestion to hold finger on lower right screen and wait for yes, did come up and was pressed and the screen is the same.
When do I get my money back????

  • ggnelson Nov 16, 2008

Per previous above, everything is the same and not resolved. GPS turns on, is charged, and won't proceed past nuvi cannot be used without maps
    What is next?????

  • ggnelson Nov 16, 2008

Garmin reset, no change. Don't know what you are talking about cr,sr,pdr cards ...there is no place to open anything. screen says: Can't Unlock Maps. Help

Ggnelson,

It seems that somehow your Nuvi has gotten "Locked"
This is an anti-theft device designed to keep people from stealing the unit.

There are 2 possible ways to resolve this

1.) If you remember the password you can enter it and unlock the unit.
Since you seem to not remember LOCKing it in the first place leads me to believe you either ACCIDENTALLY locked and and don't know the password OR you have forgotten the password

Which leaves us to option

2.) If you lift up the GPS Antenna, look inside the cavity that it swings out from. you will find a button in there with the label "Reset"

power up the unit and push the reset button. The Nuvi should turn off when you do this.

Power it back up and you Should be unlocked now.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
Thank you
Dave

I suggest taking it back and getting a replacement. The unit is faulty and you should not have to deal with these faulty issues after using the unit 1 time. Did you purchase any type of warranty with it? If not it should come with a minimum 1 year manufacturer waranty. The company should stand by it's product. You are only going to have to deal with more problems down the road if it's already acting up. If the problem was something simple to fix it would have already worked for you. Experience shows take it back and get a replacement, even if you have to buy an exact model for a new one and returning the old one in the new box for a refund. At least you get a new one if there is no warranty and the store wont replace it.

The GPS has lost its sofware or become corrupt, the best way to takle this is to download and re-install the software then do an uptade.
You could always try to update it first to see if this rectifies the problem

good luck

    sir,

You should put the map and if necessary the key on a SDcard and put that card in the SDslot.

Bear in mind that the device-id of your nuvis are different, so you will have to unlock twice.

Hey,

One of the possible solution to solve this issue :-

The gmapsupp.img must be in your SD card X:\Garmin folder. It won't work elsewhere. If you don't have this folder create one. In your SD card root directory Right Click>New>Folder. Name the New Folder Garmin and paste your Gmasupp.img into this folder.

The other option might work ( Remember this option work with most of the nuvi )

You can try to restore all to factory settings without a reset maybe. You may have all maps and data in the unit but changed some settings that messed things up.
You do this by holding your finger on the lower-right hand of the screen while powering on the unit. Keep your finger pressed until a pop up window appears. Touch "Yes" to clear all user data.
If this doesn't work then you may have corrupted or deleted the maps in the Nuvi. In this case if you made a backup of the maps you can copy it back to the unit. If you didn't backup the Nuvi then you have to call Garmin for help.

I hope u wld solve the issue reading all this :)

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 200W after performing a hard reset (hold right bottom of screen while switching on). I did this because I imported all the POIs to my favourites and there is no way to delete them all in one go except for performing this procedure. I think I was supposed to remove the SD card before performing the Hard reset, because when I switched the unit on after this it gave the error and would not connect via USB. I inserted the Map unlock CD and as I was busy browsing the CD I noticed that the error screen disappeared and the PC connection via USB was established. It seems that this happens after it has been connected for a minute or so. I ran the Map Install.exe and it discovered the Nuvi and installed the maps. I then ran the POI updater software and it installed all the POIs (lots of forums on this) and restarted the Nuvi. It gave me a "cannot unlock maps" notification but seemed to perform well. I removed the SD and it booted fine. I then copied the maps to the SD as well and it is now running 100%

Since you don't have any maps to load, you can upload the original Preloaded POI Database for GPSmap 60CS.

CLICK HERE to download it from Garmin's Web site.

This will, in effect, upload new map data to the unit and erase what is currently there now.

Remove the map card or the CD and install it back.

Check all cables and connections, and restart the Nuvi.

I said remove the card OR the CD, in your Sat Nav you use SD cards, the maps are usually stored on SD card (sometimes preloaded ones are not).

Remove SD card from Garmin and test the card on a computer. If the card is faulty you will need to find your map purchase documentation to get a new download for the maps.

First of all try performing a reset , by pressing the button that is near to the serial number on your nuvi.

Then follow my indications and test the SD card on a computer, a PDA or whatever you want.

Some of the experts here is giving wrong indications , just follow mine.

    Here is my previous comment:

No, it may take a little longer if you are charging through the USB port. I normally have mine plugged in while driving, it charges and is in use too. To use GPS with USB. First turn the GPS on (without USB plugged in). Press Battery symbol on screen for about 10 seconds, a test screen will come on. Plug in the USB (bottom of screen shows USB connected). Tap EXIT to return to maps. You can now use it while USB is charging Make sure you turn GPS off before removing the USB cable

Help I my nuvi navi says it doesnt have maps???? SOS

garmin are preloaded with maps for routing, never the less, you need to backup with software from www expertgps.com/gps-receivers/garmin-nuvi350asp OR drivehp.com/backup. your set may work after doing that. thanks

Screen reads "No detailed maps found that support routing."

I just posted this for someone else and it worked on my Nuvi 200:

"When you downloaded and installed the WebUpdater, you also got a program called MapInstall. Use it, pick the states/areas you want to install and watch the bar on the right. It will turn green and "fill up" as it calculates the amount of space needed on your gps vs. the amount available. When you have chosen too much it will let you know by turning all red.

You can ignore that huge 2GB executable file Garmin had you download. I think it's supposed to be a self extractor/application for installing the maps but has three drawbacks: One, it's painfully slow; Two, it does not work. It will go way past 100% completed and then give you a message that it failed to update your maps; and Three, once it begins the update it erases your old maps leaving you with a Nuvi that's useless without them. I tried it three times, with three different machines (after waiting 45 minutes for the Garmin helpless desk to tell me it was my chipset that was causing the problem. Nope) and got the same result. This leads me to believe the self extractor is flawed.

Once you have chosen all your states or provinces, click on the finish button and it will load those maps and you'll have a usable, updated Nuvi again. I spent the best part of a day with the .exe file because the process was so slow, and when I did it the above way it took maybe 20 minutes.

Good luck, hope you see this solution."

Error message appeared and can not do anything with it now

Here is the the lastest response:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

If you updated your nuvi 200, 200w, 205, or 205w to City Navigator North America NT 2010.10 between 4/7/09 and 4/25/09, and your unit is display the message, "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." or "Can't unlock maps." A new revision of the 2010.10 update file (Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010C.exe) has been released which corrects this issue. To download this new revision, please follow these steps:

1. Log into your myGarmin account
2. Click Manage Maps and Downloads
3. Connect the nuvi to your computer
4. Click Download Again next to your nuvi
5. Click Launch Download Manager
6. Follow the prompts to install the Download manager
7. Save the file to your Desktop

The new download may take a few hours to download. Once the file has fully downloaded, double click the file to run it, and follow the onscreen prompts to begin the installation again. You will now be able to choose the appropriate region for your device.

Note: Please make sure to only select the region that originally came loaded to your device. For example, if you have a nuvi 200 that came with the Lower 49 States, select that region and not a region that includes Canada.

Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS, not working

Hello, Here was my problem. I was traveling at 60mph yesterday and my Nuvi 360 dislodged and fell down with a huge impact inside my car. I came home and tried to look for any damage. Unfortunately Nuvi had stopped to continue beyond loading maps screen. I tried rebooting , but the problem persisted. It would take me to reboot screen, but after screen calibration, when it came to loading map screen, again went blank. I tried this and just simple starting by pushing power button several times but to no avail. I called technical support, eho advised me to to just simply connect it to my labtop and leave it that way for 3 to4 hours. Bingo!, in the next 30 mins, I accidentally switched my laptop top off, but Nuvi had started to work all fine.
