Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

3 Answers

Double image I have an huge old TV that we love. 60FX32B. It has a great picture most of the time. It goes out of focus, double image in red at times. Seems to be happening more often. Could playing video games on the TV have messed it up? To replace this size TV will cost $4000. I'd like to repair it if possible. Any ideas or is it junk? Thanks so much!

Since writing this we have found that if we hit the back of the TV it will go into focus for awhile. We then were able to adjust the convergence. It doesn't last very long though. Is something loose or do we need to replace a part?

I failed to mention this is a Hitachi.

I need some help finding the parts that need soldered. I looked at the pictures provided but my set is different. We opened it up and dust everywhere. We cleaned it out and it was good for a short while then the problem returned. It still clears up when you hit the back. p Do you know where to find them on the 60FX32B?

HI The problem sound like the fluorescent bulbs that lite up the screen are out. Keep in mind that there are many, many fluorescent bulbs in the panel and only a couple or out.

Usually when the OSD will not come up, you are looking at a problem with the video boards. Is the power button flashing or showing a different color, or does it look normal in the On position. If it's flashing, then the problem lies with the mainboard not powering up properly. It might not hurt to try a power drain at least:

    1. Unplug the product's power cable so that the device is not grounded to the house. Do not simply turn off the power-bar if one is in use.
    2. Press and hold in the products power button for 1 minute to release the retained electricity from the capacitors and circuit board. 3. Plug the product back into the wall outlet rather than a power-bar to rule it out of contributing to the problem and turn the device back on.
If this doesn't work, the TV will likely require service.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description a most likely convergence issue. If aligning would not merge the video signals, then it is probable that the convergence circuit has to be checked. Since the problem is intermittent, then one could deduce that it is a loose connection or most likely, a cold solder. Re-soldering should address the problem. Of particular interest would be the pins of the two (2) STK392-110 or 150 ICs and resistors within the immediate area.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

It is basicly the same process, you need a service manual, you will find the details of the convergence ic's in the service manual, and you can purchase the parts, and then replace them, with the help of the above guide.

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Blue and Yellow doubles

Well, fortunately the television that you purchased has an auto-convergence feature. What is happenning is that your color lamps are misaligned, did it get moved at all recently? Anyway, in your menu you should see a "Convergence" menu, and inside that menu, a section called "Perfect Focus". Run Perfect Focus in this sequence: Green --> Red --> Blue After that your picture should look great, if not try tinkering with the manual adjustments on the "Convergence" menu.
