MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I Disable the "SECURITY FREEZE LOCK" on my hitachi HTS54503289a300, 320 GB sata hard Drive? originally WAS INTALLED IN MY ACER TRAVELMATE LAPTOP NANUFACTURED IN 2012 BUT THE LAP

Maybe if you can format the disk-but you loose data, maybe there is a program that can do it, probably in linux, or bootable itself, maybe ask acer for master password or something, if you still own original laptop and it runs then try to remove disk encryption while the hdd is accessible with laptop (i think its in bios), otherwise the hdd may be unusable to prevent data theft. you can plug any sata hdd into any sata device if you can hook all the cables, no compatibility issues there. try googling and youtubing for more answers

Reboot the computer As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice

select safe mode with command prompt

Click start run type cmd press Enter

black screen should open DOS mode

this will vary depending on your operating system

type in net user username

For eg. If you want to change administrator password , type net user Administrator

it will prompt you to enter the new password

enter the new password and the password is changed

hope this helps

My computer does not recognise my WD element portable drive and I have no soft ware to install it, what can I do?

Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.
Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program; buy a new disk-drive from the W.D. web-site, at a good discount.

When I power up my laptop (Acer Aspire 5532) it goes to a screen that says: hard disk security Please input password for WBC WS1600CEVT-222CT I was not given a password when I bought this laptop. Is there...

You are out of luck. HD security keys cannot be reset and without the proper key, render the hard drive useless (formatting the drive will not help either).
If the person you bought the laptop from cannot provide you the key, you need to replace the hard drive with a new one. In this case, I would ask the previous owner for proof of ownership, it may be a stolen laptop.

Acer aspire 5000 laptop. black screen says NTLDR missing, press any key to restart..but it will not do anything just stays on the black screen with the message

try repairing the OS with the installation disk. if this doesn't work, try formatting the hard-drive, but remember to connect the hard-drive to another computer and backup your important files. this is the simplest way to solve it, as trying to restore the system manually requires lots of command lines and a system boot disk.

External hard disk

If you have a Firewire port in your computer, then it is better to go for an external hard disk with a Firewire interface. Otherwise, a USB external hard disk will do the job.

Unfortunately this error occurs with a fault hard drive. You will need to replace the hard drive and then reinstall the OS.

Erased hard drive, now nothing will load

Check to make sure that your Inspiron is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive.

It sounds like your laptop is trying to boot from the (now erased) hard drive first, finds that it can't, then stops without ever checking the CD-ROM drive for boot media.

At startup, hit F2 to go into the BIOS settings. Look for the "Boot Order" section. Make sure that your CD drive is listed first, then your hard drive.

Save your changes, and reboot with the WinXP installation CD in your drive. Now your laptop should boot from the CD and begin installation.

Good Luck!
