Question about Sirius Satellite Radio Sirius Sportster SP-R1 Satellite Radio Receiver

Open Question

Sirius Satellite Radio Sirius Sportster SP-R1 No Audio

I've had this radio for a couple of years, recently I noticed that the radio was having problems with the audio output. So I starting using the direct connection through my tape player. This did not change things, because the radio would still receive the signal, but the audio was the same. I did notice that it would only play when I first turned it on, however after approx. 5 mins the audio output would fail. Is there a fix to this?

Same problem. Started happening day after Thanksgiving. I have searched the WWW to see if it might be related to the FCC fines/settlement over the strong FM transmission, but I don't see a tie. I am guessing it just broke at this point, and am going to try to get another one on Ebay. I don't want to upgrade because I hope to get a new car in a few months with it built in, and for now, I want to keep using it in my car dock AND the boombox I already own.

My problem is a little different. After I hit a bump in the road the right channel goes dead. I tap the radio and it comes back on or if I squeeze the radio or tilt the radio in the cradle it comes back on. I've tried wedging tape between the back radio and the cradle. It works for a little while then goes dead again and I have to tap it on the side or squeeze it again to get all speakers to work.

Same basic issue with mine. I've had it for 4 years and love it. But now, I turn it on, and all I get is the "aquiring signal" message. No audio. I've replaced the antenae and checked the rest of the conections to no avail. I have just noticed that when I hit it,or bang on it with my hand several times it comes on but it only lasts a couple minutes. Anyone have any ideas on whats causing this?

SOURCE: Can't get XM channels

Goto sirius.com. You will need to access you account and find out if your radio is upgradeable for XM channels. You can find that out once you try to add xm to your account.

If it isn't you can get a free or a discounted radio from them to do it by calling customer service up. They do that for existing customers.

How much does it cost without the small radio?

How much does what cost? The service? The radio? A docking station? A replacement typically goes for somewhere around $80. You could also get a whole new kit for around that price. Equipment ranges from $20-$80 depending on what you need to get. Here is a good source for replacements: tss-radio.com

It tells me there is no antenna not detected

Antenna not detected could be caused by one of three things: The antenna, the docking station, or the receiver. If you have other equipment to troubleshoot, you can narrow down what is causing your issue and replace it. tss-radio.com is a good source for parts and trouble shooting ;)

It will not hold the signal as long as it used to.

I would try cleaning both the dock and the receiver pin connectors with alcohol, then drying and try that.

Doesn't receive and displays "acquiring signal"

The "hideaway tuner" is bad. On the antenna input board there is a cold solder joint and it looses it's ground. If it's out of warranty you can get a rebuilt tuner on Ebay for about 50.00 This has been a huge issue among sat radio users for the past three years. The rebuilt units are better than the new ones. Hope this helps

When i place my sirius radio into the base, driver side speaker goes off and on but most time i only hear the passanger side speaker working, I had my sirius sportster for 3 years. I think it is the base,...

when you listen to a cd or the normal radio does the drivers side speaker work? if it does then it is most likely the base is the problem. you might have a loose connection in your car. or the speaker is blow.

Look at the bottom of your unit, you'll notice the round port next to the slot? It get's jammed up inside the unit if you pressed to hard setting it into the cradle at some point. Not easy to fix, unfortunatley.

Satellite radio antennas do tend to fail sometimes. In the early days of Sirius/XM they were made a lot better, but now I've had problems with them a lot more frequently. If the antenna is plugged in securely and it still shows the 'antenna' error code, you most likely need to replace your antenna. It is possible that something else along the antenna signal path is causing your problem - Sometimes the antenna connections in the dock or the receiver itself can cause the issue, but most likely it is the antenna.
