Dark Screen Does anyone know if this Garmin uses a CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) and inverter in it's LCD display? I have no display on startup.... Recently repaired the same problem on my laptop (Toshiba) by replacing the CCFL. Thank you

Almost all LCD use a flourescent lamp, some very new and expensive types use OLED.

I have a Garmin GPS on my boat I just bought But I can not see the screen it is very dark

there should be an adjustment for the display brightness. try looking in settings for this adjustment. Keep in mind the brighter the display the shorter the battery life.

Garmin Nuvi 1300 touch screen not working

It sounds like you need your touchscreen replaced. The touchscreen is soldered to the LCD display, so the touchscreen must be unsoldered from the LCD display and a new touchscreen resoldered to the LCD display. Please do not attempt to do this yourself. You can easily damage the LCD display in the process. More information about touchscreen replacement can be found here:

Cant read the menu. Is backlight broken.? I can see the word garnin when I turn power on. But the menu is difficult to read- Is it konfigutation for dark or light screen?

It depends on the model - but CCFL tubes are used by Garmin to light the screen of GPS devices. A CCFL tube comes with a high voltage inverter to power the tube. Meaning either the CCFL Tube or the Inverter can be dead.

Symptom is a barely readable screen and becomes a bit more visible when looked at from an angle. No light comes from the screen at all.

The inverter can be tested by holding oscilloscope leads close to the screen. A sinus waveform of about 50 - 60 Khz should be visible when the device is powered at full screen intensity.

When I plug the power cord for my Garmin into the car, the display instantly is too dark to see anything. When the cord is removed and the Garmin is running on battery, the screen is fine. Shouldn't be...

Without knowing what model Garmin you have, perhaps there is a "night mode" illumination display option available and has been selected.

Sorry this is vague, but I hope it is of some benefit to you.

Good luck!

Display is very dark

If the brightness control is turned all the way up and the screen is still dark, then the LCD display is defective. Probably a problem with the backlight.

To turn on, you have to press and hold down the on/off power button until the screen comes on. There is a design flaw with the power switch. Please see this link for details. Too much info and pictures to paste here:

Nuvi Screen is messed up

Sorry to say but your screen is most likely damaged. You should never store a LCD display in the cold. First, the cold slows down the screen's response time... after all.... LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display.... what does "liquid" do when it's cold? Also, there is a chance that condensation develops inside from your car being cold and then heated when you drive it. Not good for electronic devices.

The screens can be replaced.

Nuvi 200 screen is extremely dark

The screen brightness could be turned down or the display itself is defective. Even if it was turned down all the way it should be somewhat visible, so if the display is completely blank, I would suggest that the LCD display has become defective.

Garmin eTrex Legend GPS

A dark screen might be the result of a poorly adjusted display contrast. This can be altered by accessing the Setup menu and selecting Display.
