Question about Gateway GT4010 (RBGT4010) PC Desktop
My gt4010 was working fine until one day the computer wouldn't turn on the monitor. How do I know the monitor doesn't have the problem? I put a new monitor and the screen would continue to go blank.
ALWAYS CHECK THE WARRANTEE FIRST!
If you are having the same issue with a new monitor, the problem is with your computer.
1.check your power lights on the computer case and the power supply if it has a light on the rear. If these lights are NOT coming on look at the power supply first. NO power here means no computer startup and no monitor startup.
2.check all cables and external devices, MAKE SURE THEY ARE ATTACHED FULLY
3. check all fans (requires removing the case cover, usually a couple phillips head screws on the rear of the computer. make sure the fans are clean, have a little tention when you try to spin them with your finger and the metal finned heat sync undernieth them is not full of dust as this will cause overheating. You can power the computer ON while you have the case open to manually inspect if the fans are coming on.
4. check all add-in cards (video,sound, network, etc.) and memory (RAM) make sure they are fully seated in the main board.
Run through this checklist, this should get you through most of the hardware checks that would stop your computer from starting.
If its the power supply or one of the fans it's not a spendy repair. and if its something in the software, its even less of an issue, dont stress, just attack the problem in small steps.
