Question about Intertherm Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We have an InterTherm heating system. The bedroom thermostat will not shut down when it reaches tempreature. This system is about 30 years old. Do you believe the problem is the thermostat or at the baseboard system?

You have a bad thermostat, there must be a 3-5 degree difference between set point temp and actual room temp,is this a boiler or forced air furnace

Intertherm M3rl080A BW furnace that shuts down will no indication of fault

If your diagnostic indicator is not picking showing a fault code than it thinks everything is ok with the furnace. It could be a bad thermostat. (or the heat anticipator in the thermostat).

What are the numbers on the metal strip on the inside of my thermostat from 1.0 @ the bottom too .2 at the top it has a bronze sliding clip with point on it I moved it and not sure if my temp setting

You shouldn't be messing around inside the thermostat. You have now changed the setting on the heat anticipator. This control is used to set the heat, so the heat shuts down before and in anticipation of the heat reaching its set point so it doesn't overshoot it. This thermostat will have be to reset by a pro. I believe it would be cheaper to just buy a new digital thermostat.

Intertherm Heat Pump

Some of the old heat pumps made the reversing valve in the heating mode. On your new thermostat the orange wire will need to be on the B terminal. If it was color coded? I hope you made notes of how it was.

I have air coming from the vents but no heat. The furnace is 23 years old and I've never replaced anything in the unit. Best guess? GE Intertherm. thanks

If the thermostat is set on Fan and not Auto the fan will continue to run. If the fan control is bad or is set at too low of a setting, it will blow cold air after the furnace has shut off. From what I guess of your explanation, your furnace is not producing any heat and the room air blower runs blowing cold air. You may have two issues happening. Make sure your thermostat is calling for heat by setting it to a high setting. Inspect the thermostat to see if it is set at Auto. Go to the heating system and inspect it to see if it is heating. If you can't view any flames carefully touch the exhaust pipe and see if it is hot. If not, you have a no-heat condition. A 23 year old furnace may need some TLC so call a technician you trust. He/she may need to replace the ignitor or thermocouple to get it going. They will also check out why your fan is running when it should not.
