Why is my dell windows xp home edition stuck on standby? The only thing that happens when i turn it on is the power button flashes orange

It doesn't sound like it's in standby mode, it sounds like it's not POSTing.

The PSU may be failing or already failed. Try disconnecting all nonessential hardware. The PSU may not be putting out enough power for the system to POST

Reloaded XP from cds. My Toshiba laptop has a product code/ID but

Are the cds the originals that came with your laptop? If not then that is the problem- you need to use a Toshiba OEM cd for your product key to work with it. If you are using a different brand cd (dell, hp, acer, etc.) then you will need to use their product key.

I mistakenlly uninstalled my sound driver and now no sound is playing on my system

Do you still have the original CDs that came with the computer? If you do then the sound drivers should be located on one of the CDs and you can reload the sound drivers from the CD.

Windows XP cds can't be dowloaded. If your computer came loaded with one in it, you can request a restore CD from the manufacturer
