You need to try them on another computer to make sure the sound card is working correctly in this one first. This will let you know if there is something wrong with your speakers.

Are this powered speakers connect to the same mains power socket as the computer.
If not you may be getting an earth loop which causes a humming sound.
Connect these speakers to the same power outlet, if you have not sufficient outlets use a power board.

I have plugged in my speakers and there is no sound i have gone into control panel and its not on mute

Plug some headphones into the same output that you had your speaker in. If they work it is your speakers. If not, then it is your computer.
*If it is your speakers, just the power is plugged in, the power button is on or replace.
*If it is NOT your speakers, then it is your computer driver. Uninstall and then restart. The computer will reinstall the driver automatically. Make sure you have the driver or have download it in case the computer doesn't install it for you.

Computer speakers no sound

I'm assuming Windows XP on a PC Desktop but the concepts are the same no matter what operating system.

1. Are your speakers plugged in to a power source?
2. Are they turned on?
3. Is the volume turned up on the speakers?
4. Are your speakers plugged into the (usually green) audio port on your computer? 5. Go into control panel, sounds and audio devices and check to make sure that sound is not on "mute".
5. On the Audio tab, check to make sure it shows a default sound device for each item. If not, either your sound card is malfunctioning or you need to download and install a current driver from the Acer website.
