Do you live in an area with hard water? Here's a link to a map of the US. If you live in a red, orange, or yellow area, you probably have hard water. You can replace some of your detergent with a small amount of water softner.

New Frigidaire dishwasher installed week ago. All of the dishes, glasses, silverware have a white grimy film on them. Our tap water is clean and rated superiour by the state. We have tried every setting...

You need to adjust the water softener setting on the machine.
THe machine takes dishwasher salt and needs to be set to the hardness level in your area (water company will tell you the value) or some machines come with a test strip to test.

We have a new dishwasher, and we have a heavy white film on glassware and plastic glasses in the upper tray after use. What is the cause and what is the solution?

Its sounds as though your water harness is very high.
You have to add salt into the salt dispenser and set the machine for the "hardness" value in your area.
Your water company can tell you how hard the water is.
With the correct setting on the machine it will release salt to soften the water.
The salt you need is not cooking salt but one for a dishwasher available from supermarket.

We have an Rangemaster RDW459F1 integrated dishwasher and there is a strong taste of salt on everything. We indroduced 2 kg of salt into the dispenser after first filling with water as...

stop using the tablets. they don't work in hard water areas. I think what you are dealing with is hard water deposits. Use "Lemi shine" for your main wash and the packets for your pre-wash. No one has harder water than where i live... Lemi shine works awesome!!!!

Where do i put the salt in my hotpoint dishwasher ?

If you don't put salt in the appliance then the regeneration crystals will clump together over time and solidify. This will cause a restriction in the softener unit.
If you stopped using it and then started again you may find that the impurities caught by the crystals have simply found their way into the appliance.
You can set the softener to be at minimum setting if you are in a soft water area.

The salt isn't used to soften the water, it's used to clean the crystals in the water softener unit.
Why Do I Need to Use Salt in my Dishwasher?
Salt is needed to ensure that your dishwasher's in-built water softener gives an optimum performance. You will especially need to use dishwasher specific salt if you live in a hard water area. You can purchase one of our Aqua test strips (part number 180876) to determine the hardness of your water from our parts and accessories store or call us on 08448 225 225 .

Manually drain the floor of the machine, put in salt, and check out.
open the salt container at the bottom, and it will be full up with water, and it really will smell bad. clean it and add salt near to 1kg. then run run a prewash cycle and then check out does the salt error is coming up.if yes then more salt needs to be added.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively.thank you for using fixya

If your water is Very Extremley hard then you will need to program your Bosch dishwasher using the Code

I suggest that you use Calgon Dishwasher ( Sodium Carbonate formula Na2CO3.) tablets in the dishwasher every week this is a brand-named water softner that is essential to be used in areas of hard water which causes calcification and catastrophic failure. Use both the salt and the Calgon to suit your hardness.

If you live in a soft water area then set code H:01 as the extra is not required and only use Calgon tablets once a week use normal salt or tablet for the other washes.

Hope this helps

My glasses are cloudy and some of the dishes looks like sand or partials on them after a 2hour cycle. I also use jet dry .

Some states such as Califoria, have hard water. Since you did not specify waht state you reside, I am going to list some hints with hard water issues.
a) If you hand wash the glasses (preferanly soak them in vinegar) and the glasses don't come clean, then you have a high temperature issue.
b. If the glasses come clean, then one of the following issues are occuring.
1. Check your spray arms (the bars that rotate) for any blockage in the holes.
2. Check for water hardness i.e. test strips -or take a sampe of water to your local water district for analysis
3. I f hard water is present then increase the amount of detergent. The phosphorous content should be 6 or better. (cascade powder with bleach)
4) Check the dial setting on your rinse aid dispensor-- if it's set too high, this will cause cloudiness on your glasses. The setting should be between "2" and "3"

5) Is the water heating during the wash cycle? Run the diswasher on normal cycle , then after 25 min, open the door and determine if you feel stem on your face. If you do, more than likely the unit is heating properly
6) What is the temp of the hot water coming out of the kitchen tap? It should be 140 degrees.
7) Purchase Dishwasher Magic (Ace hardware, TRue Value) --it comes in a plastic bottle that has a wax coating on the opening ( after you remove the cap) It's a liquid cleaner and works great. This will flush your system
Hope this helps!!

If you live in a hard water area the 5 in 1 tablets will only work half way. Consider Calgon powder or the tablets which can be left in the dishwasher cutlery basket as an additional measure. Hard water areas are notorious for leaving chalky residue on cutlery regardless of 3 in 1/5 in 1 tablet promises.
Also your dishwasher will require rinse aid too as most machines need this to mix in with the general water and soap solutions when the dishwasher is on its final rinse.
