Have you tried a different set of speakers? you should be able to plug them into the headphone jack. speakers without a power supply are softer. my laptops the same way. i use vlc player when i play videos because you can turn the volume up to 200%.

Can use pc speakers and plug them in the back to the earphones socket will it work

Yes. Keep in mind that the volume is adjusted on the computer. If you do not have a volume icon on the start bar, you need to click on start and type in Control Panel, click on the first Control Panel that appears. When the new window opens, click on Hardware and sound. Then look for Adjust sound volume, and click on it. Then adjust speaker sound and system sound.

Volume is controlled at the Computer if the MJ is attached to the USB port. This means the Speaker Volume control (see lower right on your screen for the speaker icon) needs adjusting or the speakers volume control on the attach sound system needs adjustment. If it is a MJ+ that plugs into the Modem (or router) USB port or Cat6 line port; you can only adjust volume on your attached telephone.

I am having problems adjusting volume

What type of laptop HP , ASUS , COMPAQ , ACER ?..........
Up the Volume on My HP Laptop
Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.
Locate and open the icon that deals with sound.
Depending on your version of Windows, it will say either "Sounds and Audio Devices" or "Adjust System Volume."
Adjust the volume under the "Speakers" icon.
To do this, click on the slider bar and move it up on the slider.
If you need to decrease the volume, simply move the slider bar down.
Click on "OK" when finished and close the "Control Panel" window.
Click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen for a faster volume adjustment. Simply move the slider bar up to increase the volume and move it back down to decrease the volume.

Volume on an Acer Laptop
Acer laptops are typically sold with pre-installed Windows operating systems that offer sound-adjustment features for increasing the volume on the laptop's built-in stereo speakers.
These same functions can also be used in tandem with external speakers or headphones to increase the volume, as well as mute all sound on the laptop.
If the computer should output an unusually low volume, fixing the problem may be no more involved than sliding a control switch with the computer mouse. Click once on the speaker icon in the taskbar on the lower-right corner to open a rectangular window with a slide control.
Click and hold the left mouse button on the slide control to drag it upward, increasing the volume to the laptop's maximum setting.
Click the "Mixer" button below the slider control to open another window with volume controls for "Speakers" and "Applications," adjusting each slide control upward to increase the volume.
Be sure the speaker icon below each control is not accidentally muted.
Click once on each speaker icon to remove the red circle with a slash through it, which will restore audio.
Click the Microsoft flag or "Start" button in the lower-left corner if the shortcut speaker icon is missing from the taskbar.
Click "Control Panel" to select "Adjust Sounds" from the Hardware and Sounds category.

Iis there a volume control on toshiba tecra a2

If it's plugged into a external speaker system, doesn't the external speaker system have volume control? In the Tray Notification Area, right click or click on the Sound Icon, adjust volume OR open the Control Panel and select Sounds Icon. Laptop aren't known for great sound, I use this: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/sounddock_systems/sounddock_portable/index.jsp

I can't barely hear sound from my Gateway laptop speaker m305crv? only headphones and extra speakers work! PAUL TUMINO

1. Do you have an external volume control on the side? If so adjust it.
2. Do you have a speaker symbol in your lower right hand toolbar? If so, right click on it, go to open volume control, and adjust the slides.
3. No speaker in the toolbar? Left click START, choose CONTROL PANEL, find the ikon that says SOUND AND AUDIO DEVICES, double left click it and adjust the volume.

I adjust all the way to high volume is still sound so low.

Best thing to do is to go to manufacturer website and download the latest audio drivers. Then make sure your sound settings are set to High as well the application you are using.
Some movies will be encoded with different audio codec which makes voice pretty quite.
Unfortenately some model laptops come with very weak speakers and you cannot get good volume out of them. If this is the case then your only option is external speakers.

Hope this helps.
