-Freezing when doing anything
-No Hard Drive activity
-Freezing when trying to use on-board keyboard or bringing up keyboard
-Game/Movie Disc freezes system

Factory Reset / Hard Reset the PlayStation 3

Prior to doing the hard reset try the following things:
(If applicable)

-Restore default PS3 settings via System menu
-Restoring PS3 system and a quick format via System menu
-Full format via System menu

If you still can, backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to Sony.

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.

2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.

3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn’t detected after initial reset).

4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).

Hey, Try all this....

Hold the On/Off button till the system turns off. Once the unit is off, on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3, turn the main power switch off. Wait approximately two minutes and turn the PLAYSTATION 3 back on

If it works, than g8, unless try 2 more options:-

  • Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

  • There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION®3.

  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.

  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

  • 2.
If you are changing cables or cannot see an image on the screen, you may need to reset the video output to default settings. To reset the video output:

    1. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.

    2. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

I hope this wld slve ur cncrn :)

As u said that u do not have issues regarding the display, in this case, we may try

      one more solution,

Format the hard disk and install all the data again.

You can simply remove the HD and hook it to any standard computer that has SATA Controller on it and format it or use a utility to wipe it clean.

You can also put it in an external USB SATA case and plug it into any PC and format it also.

It's just a standard notebook SATA HD.

And i am sure than this issue wld be be there.

If the playstation is still freezing, then the internal software had been damaged.

Give a call to Sony number and tell them what happened, they can offer you a free replacement depending on the circumstances, and if you did not cause the fault by yourself.

      Check first the controllers cable.

      Try the following procedures:

1 PS jammed - Do soft reset: hold the front power button for about a minute.

2 Disk drive faulty. Call Sony Customer Support on the numbers you find on the following websites:Sony USA Sony UK" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >Australia
Keep ready the serial number that you find on the back of the playstation, right under the bar code.

3 Connection problems - If you are using HDMI cable, unplug the HDMI connector and connect to the TV with RCA, theng go to settings-display >> setting-video output setting, and changethe setting back
to AV MULTI/SCART and just follow the messagesthat will pop up
telling that if the screen goes blank The PS will reset video connection to the original
Connect back HDMI to restore the original connection, or keep PS on RCA.

4.You may have damaged the lens or the blu-ray diode, in this case call Sony to arrange the repair, or have it fixed at a local repair shop. The cost is around $80 (fifty pounds in UK).

      5. Most important thingg to do is finding Sony phone number and calling them, if you did not cause the fault, and the PS is gone faulty by itstself, without you doing any wrong operation, Sony will offer you a free replacement, they always do as PS has 3 years factory warranty.

      Give them a call.

To make it shorter, do the folowing, but do it:

      1. Unplug all PS cable and plug it back.

      2. hold the front power button for about a minute.

      3. Call sony because the image on the HD is damaged, you find the number on the manual, you may be offered a free replacement.
Do the steps above (but do it) and then get bact to us and report the outcome.

It is either this or there is something jammed inside your system.

I just recently installed a new blu-ray drive into my PS3 I switched the contoller board and everything, but now the drive wont take my discs... i mean I can push it in but the drive wont grab it and pull...

ok sounds like you did every thing correctly and switching the board was in the right directio however the controller chip on your daughter board very well could be damaged since these boards rest directly overtop of the gpu and cpu the heat goes smack dab into the metal caing wich in some cases the case toushes the bottom of the daughter board resulting in a over heated controller chip
    possible repair is
    replacing that chip
    with a infectus chip
i am still working on this problem
ive had 2 good repairs matching problem..hope this was helpful

How do I get a stuck disk out of my play station3? It will power up but when i hit the eject button the standby button turns red. We think there are two disc stuck in there but we cant be sure.

I have seen several suggestions at the playstation*com PS3 forums in the past, such as:

    | Zr0_C00L wrote:Try turning it off from the back,
    | then hold the eject button while you flip the back
    | power switch back on. Worked for my buddies
    | when his died (good thing too, it was my game
    | in there!)
    | i too did the same thing and it worked for me.

This one with multiple discs jammed it sounds like it may apply to you:

"If anyone is having any problems, this is what worked for me. What is more amazing is that my son somehow managed to force 3 discs into that tiny idea how he pulled that one off.

So after two hours, a pair of tweezers, a fork, and a butterknife, I decided to try one last thing before giving up. I put the PS3 on its nose, disc tray down, held the eject button while it was on, and pushed a disc in and out of the drive. This caused whatever was in there to finally 'catch' as the drive had been trying to force everything out. After 2-3 minutes of play, a disc finally poked out. I pulled what i thought was one and two discs came out. I set it back down flat, tried to put a cheap DVD in (didn't want to test it with a $60 game) and it seemed something was still in there. I hit eject and out came the third disc. I put the DVD in reluctantly and the PS3 took it and loaded it right up. Unbelievable. After all this abuse, it's apparent these things are built like tanks."

    You gotta love children.
    Hope that helps.

    1. Unplug PS3
    2. Stand up so as you are looking down into the disc opening.
    3. Fold out the felt that protects the drive.
    4. Look for what resembles a disc. (You should see it)
    5. Take to butter knives from your kitchen and with both hands use it like tongs to go into the drive and pinch the disc.
    6. Pull out the disc and your DONE.

Worked for me a couple of times.
