Question about LG LHT854 Theater System
I have an lg lht854 dvd surround sound system hooked up to an LG 42" lcd tv. Everything has been working fine, until tonight when I was watching a rented movie, it froze up. I removed the dvd, cleaned it and put it back in. It wouldn't read the disc. I tried powering down the unit, unplugging it, other dvds and cds and its still not reading any disc. It will try to and say no disc. I've only had it for 2 1/2 months and never had any problems. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix the problem. Thanks,

SOURCE: my dvd combo does not read dvd
There are separate lasers for CD reading, and for DVD reading. This is why it is possible to have a drive that reads only CDs but not DVDs, or the other way around. And your particular combo unit seems to have a lot of these problems. Since the drive doesn't work it's almost definitely a problem with the drive itself (I'm assuming that there is nothing wrong with the discs you tried to read). If that drive is still covered by a warranty period, send it back for repairs. Otherwise, I can't see the harm in trying to tinker with it yourself as the DVD portion of it is dead anyways. Ummm, on a side note...CompUSA is going out of business and they are selling things cheap. I got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40...booyah!

SOURCE: Various LG DVD Player
Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.

THANK YOU Guest (4/10/08)!!!
That was exactly what I needed! We have had our system for 4.5 years and suddenly, the FM feedback on everything, but DVD and Radio! Your fix helped. Once I set all my presets (at least the current one) to a clear station, the feedback stopped. Hallelujah!! We can enjoy this piece of junk once again! ;)

I need some clarification before we can proceed. Which audio/video cable did you use to connect the 360 & your home theater receiver & TV/monitor? It makes a difference which you use. The HDMI cable would be the preferred one to use. The fact that the receiver only has 1 HDMI connection limits your options for other digital connections. Respond to this post & I can provide additional info. I have found that when responding to someone's question, I have a tendency to provide too much info on the 1st response.
