for you HP compaq CQ40 laptop go to HPs website then locate Drivers and Support if u cant find it its simply becuse
HP unfortunately makes it clear that if you downgrade to XP, there are going to be certain drivers that will not be available to you because they don't support them. The audio driver is usually the one that people can't find because it doesn't exist.
You might try over on the Business Support Forums. If there is driver for your system's audio, they'll likely have found it over there. That forum has been up and running for much longer than these forums. But don't be surprised if they don't have a solution either. HP was pretty specific about downgrade issues and problems and not being sympathetic about them.
