Question about HP LaserJet 1020 Printer

4 Answers

HP Laser Jet 1020 heating up for 2 min every time I try printing

When Printing the document:

Printer starts working (rollers are turning) and it lasts about 2 minutes green light is on after it finishes warming up but nothing is printed.

When I choose to print again the machine starts warming up again for 2 min this time two lights are blinking green and orange one after another) and finally I get both lights on, which means that is a fatal error and nothing is printed.

This happens almost every time I try to print, doesn't matter whether it's microsoft office, acrobat reader etc.

Sometimes it starts printing but it stops f.ex on 3rd page and there is paper jam (document has horizontal line printed on the jammed page and orange linght is blinking)

I replaced the toner but didn't help.

Could anyone advise what to do?

Thank you

Hello, first try simple solutions:

Make sure the computer is conected to the printer.
Reinstal the printer driver on the computer
Make sure there isnt a jam (liek paper) inside the printer, or a problem with the toner (**** as beign stuck or havign no ink)

Five things to check for this problem 1)either the printer door is not closed properly. lift the door and again close it tightly. 2)either the laser toner cartridge is not inserted properly so it is showing this error. there is a black colour plastic part in the cartridge which touches any sensor poart in the printer.by this the printer identifies that the cartridge is inserted.if the cartridge is not inserted properly the printer will not identify the cartridge and this error problem will come. 3)if the laser toner cartridge is totally empty this error comes up as there is no powder remaining in the toner and it needs replacement or the refilling of the cartridges. 4)if any piece of paper is jammed in the printer remove the laser toner cartridge by lifting the front cover and check if there is small piece of paper in it it will show this error. 5)if everything seems to be proper in your printer then its the driver software error just delete the drivers of the printer from your pc and load new drivers from the printer installation cd . your printer is absolutely perfect. just check out for this problems listed above.any 1 of the above will definately help u solve your problem,. rate the solution if it helps u. if further help require feel free for assistance. thanks.

Uninstall the driver, reboot the PC and reinstall the latest version of the driver, which can be downloaded from hp.com

If that does not work, it could be an issue with the drum unit that is causing this error. You may have to replace it.

Try replacing the toner first.

robably the machine need a new drum.

From the description it sounds like a problem with the drum, but on this printer toner and the imaging drum are packed in one unit. when you replace toner, you also replace the drum.

If the drum/toner is OK, it can be one of the paper jam sensor (small plastic tabs) that is returning error, and getting the printer stuck.
This would also explain why it gives paper jam that often.

If the printer has over 1000 copies, it many also be necessary to clean the inside of the printer to remove toner dust. See: Clean your laser printer safely with these tips.

Why hp laser jet 1020 plus printing only some areas in a page

Poor copy quality can be isolated tot he following three components.

1. toner cartridge, you can quickly change the toner and find out if the printing improves.
2. Transfer roller which is located in the printer below the toner cartridge, these rarely fail so I doubt this is the issue.
3. Fusing assembly, the fusing assembly has a mylar sleeve around the heating element and over time this sleeve degrades and as a result print quality is compromised.

Hope this helped

Try to check for some paper obstruction into the roller (black) and clear it. Try to clean also those roller with rubbing alcohol to remove some dirt on it and try printing again if it works.

I have HP Laser Jet 1020 When I print letters

Most cases on that machine it's the transfer roller that does that at 75mm, but could also be drum cartridge or fuser. Use a flashlight and inspect the fuser, shouldn't be toner or image on fuser rollers, If you unplug the machine when the print is in the middle, you can tell if it's before or after the fuser, and after the drum.

REmove cartridge, and open rear door, might be all scrunched in very back fuser unit, if you can't remove it without damaging the rollers then it will need to be pulled to bits
