Crystals forming all over freezer

We had a ABR2533DES, bottom freezer installed last Monday. Throughout the week we have seen ice forming all over the freezer compartment. It looks like an old time refrigerator that needs to be defrosted! I thought this might mean the temp was too cold, so I lowered the temp from 4 to 3, but it has now gotten worse. The manual provides no help on this issue. We have a call into the company we purchased from and who also installed, but since it's a holiday weekend they haven't responded. We would love any input you may have.

Re: crystals forming all over freezer

Look at the gasket between the door and the ref cabinet. If you have any gap in there, then worm air is getting in, condensing, then freezing.

Re: crystals forming all over freezer

Sure sounds like the defrost cycle is not working. Could be a bad defrost heater, t-stat or timer.

Where is ice-detecting sensor located in the bottom freezer refrigerator? No ice/water in door, only in freezer (Kenmore)?

On the side of the icemaker, there is a wire bale or arm that is pushed up by the accumulating ice that shuts off the icemaker.

Neverending ice cystals buildup in freezer

Hi Rachel,

Opened 3-10 times per day, per week, per month?

There is only one possible source of these ice crystals -- moisture precipitating from the air (condensate) -- this air is coming from outside the freezer. It's either getting in when the freezer is opened or coming in around the gasket.

You might try a very thin coat of vaseline on the gasket to get a better seal.
