Altho I don't have that PC I suspect you just don't have an adequate graphics function (hardware) to support that game. That has happened to me on my desktop. upgrading my graphics card solved the problem. I am not sure how you can do that with your laptop since it has limited graphics update capability. Another item, which you may have already done is added memory. Since your system already has Vista, it presumably has enough RAM. Just another thought.

You have to have the disc in your cd/dvd drive to play the game. the game will not play without the disc. If you have any expansion packs installed you need to use the latest expansion disc. For instance, I have Free Time but not Apartment Life so I must have the Free Time disc in the drive to play the Sims 2, not the Sims 2 disc.
usually when you first install it, it gives you the option to create a shortcut option to be made on your computer desktop but that's the shortest way to go into playing the game-it still has to load regardless just due to the fact that certain games (such as the Sims) require a great deal more memory and RAM (Random Access Memory) than other games.
Vista sucks, no offence, but vista sucks, there was probably a glitch in the thing that pops up when you put a CD-ROM in, so to play the game, go to my computer and select the disk from under devices with removable storage.
I had the same problem, when I installed the sims on my new lap top (with vista) it just kept repeating the 'loading the expansion packs' thing. I uninstalled it and re-installed it, and it solved that problem. HOWEVER, I now have a new problem, it gets stuck in transit to any place, so you may fix that problem with the uninstalling and re-installing-but I don't know what the new problem might be!
Its possible that the game is on a dvd and your computer only has a CD Rom drive. It should say on the front of the drive on your computer what it is. Chipset is the video card inside the pc (Either ATI or Nvidia)
Hey, if you are on vista, it may be that vista is annoying, try right clicking the icon, and going to compatibility tab and clicking "Run Windows Xp Sp2"
Thats the most I cant think would work
P.s. Also try running as Administrator or both :)
Your computer does not have either enough hard drive or disk space left to run the game on, or you may have downloaded some custom content that may effect the internal game play. i would delete the game off your computer with saved game data and all and reinstall it and try it from there, if that does not work then it might just be time for an upgrade on your system. Hope that helps!
Vista is the issue.
Very few games run well on Vista.
Have you defragmented your computer this month?
How much free space remains on your Hard Drive? It needs to be above 15%.
Go to your control panel, then display and see what video card is showing.I
If it is an nVidia card, go to their web page and update the drivers.
Then go to DirectX at Microsoft and get the 9.0C or above update.
the solution on the cd disc is to remove the cd out then uninstall the all games installed in this cd drive replace cd drive when it comes to uninstalling sim delux is goto where saved games in sim deluxe and save folder to a different location then uninstall then re-install with new cd drive and hunt net for nc patches for games that work if this still doesn't work time for re-install windows from scratch if you have a spare hard drive use it to copy all game saves to it then redo windows and all drivers then all games then place saves back into place where they came from.
