Linksys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter V2.0 (WPC54C) Logo

No association with access point

This adapter worked just fine until a few days ago. I got this old computer for my kids to play around on. It's been taken care of very well, but I wanted to wipe out the hard drive and reinstall windows. I reinstalled the adapter, and both lights are ON. However, it says WPC54GS is Inactive!!! There are no conflicts in Device manager. I'm running Xp. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would recommend is to try plugging the adapter into another laptop to see whether it, or your laptop, is the problem.
If it's OK on the other laptop, I would suggest un-installing the driver for the adapter, upgrade Windows XP to latest, downloading the latest driver from the Linksys website then re-installing the driver according to manufacturer's instructions.

SOURCE: Flashing Green light???

Try plugging it into your other computers. If it works that means it may be driver issues on your desktop. Now if it doesn't work on the other computer your device is bad. On wireless adapters packets get collided. After two years of packet collusion your adapter will go bad. Now these days adapter like that is cheap to get these days.

It is possible that a neighbor purchased a wireless access point that it on the same channel and they are competing. Change your wireless channel. You could also try a hard reset. Instructions at D-Link's website. Good luck!

No association with access point? was working

Try restarting your access point then restarting your computer. I have a wireless network and have to do this regularly. After I do, everthing works fine. As long as nothing happened to change your network settings on your computer, the restart should work.

I hope that this information was helpful and gets you started on the right track to solving your problem.
