Cannot see pc MOV or JPG files on flash drive in Canon SX230

Cannot see new JPG or MOV pictures / videos on my canon SX230 when I transfer from PC to the latest folder on my flash drive in the camera

  • Anonymous Apr 24, 2012

Thanks very much for responding to my problem.
It seems Canon will not allow edited pictures or video to transfer from PC to their digital cameras for viewing.
steps to my problem:1. my canon SX230 created all the parts for my WMV video in MOV format originally.
    2. created a movie (WMV format) in Windows Live Movie Maker. Works well and plays on my PC (windows 7).
    3. after WMV completed - converted to HD MOV format in 2 different file convert programs and with 2 different HD MOV resolution settings on Both programs. WMV resolution is 1920x1080 (HD). ALL 4 MOV videos play well on my PC in 2 different programs.

Steps getting Canon to see video in playback mode.1. copy MOV video from PC to Flash drive in my card reader in same folder as my original JPG & MOV files, then inserted into camera - does not recognize file.
    2. copy MOV file from PC to camera with USB cable. Windows error message. Wrong format - would not copy.
    3. Formatted flash drive in camera. Took picture to create DCIM folder, JPG image, and CANONMSC folder with M0104.CTG file .Deleted CANONMSC folder. Copied my MOV video from PC to camera (USB cable). this time copy successful. However camera does nor recognize file.
    5. tried again except deleted M0104.CTG file but not the CANONMSC folder. no luck.
It seems Canon will not recognize any file that has not originated in the camera AND has not been altered. Upon researching answers on the NET - many other users of Canon cameras have the same problem with no luck.

Maybe you haven' t downloaded a proper program to open and view the file. You can try to download some programs to test the opening.
For MOV file opening, you can try Leawo Blu-ray Player which can support a lot of video, audio and resolutions.
You can also check on this:

SOURCE: canon 20d raw to pc

Have you ever been able to view the pictures on your pc?
Have you got a card reader that can view the card contents externaly from the camera?
I found the Canon software is quite as happy from a card reader as it is reading from the camera. (I have the next model up, 30D.)
Have you tried upgrading your software, or tried using a third party image program to read the raw files?
Over to you!

SOURCE: the .mov 720p videos made by the Canon sx20si can't be watched

If the files are not big, you can try http://www.zamzar.com/ and convert them to .Avi for playback over the net. Otherwise, try the Rad Videos Tools (Free of Charge), but this requires a working QuickTime install, and can be found here ...

SOURCE: Canon PowerShot S3 IS & Windows 7

This is correct. The S3 is discovered by windows 7 and will allow download of pictures by Windows Picture download. The Canon Utilities software - Zoombrowser - will not work with windows 7 as the software cannot detect the Camera via Windows 7.. Also, Camera window will not start, if using the PC/laptop for remote image recording. If you virtualise XP within Windows 7 this still will not work. The only solution at the moment, if you are deperate, like I was (as I use the Remote Capture process a lot), is to either stick with Win Xp or Dual boot XP on a smaller partition.

SOURCE: File transfer issue in Canon IXUS 100is.

Using a card reader is not a solution. It's a workaround. It's useless to not be able to copy the files from your camera without a card reader. It's a problem that canon needs to adress.

Can not transfer my pictures from my camera to my pc

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

MOI is a computer file format used primarily to represent information. MOI files are associated with MOD or TOD files whose content they represent. I think some videos got deleted from our camera and I was wondering if there was anyway to recover them

You have to rely on some file recovery software as it's the best way. Suggest this file recovery program called Wondershare Data Recovery. It can recover lost, deleted, formatted files from SD card,PC, external hard drive, USB flash drive etc. So I may help with your case. You may get the program here and have a try,

A tip: before the files are recovered, please do not store more files to the flash drive in case previous data are overwritten.
