An apology Just wanted to send you an apology for the remark in the lounge that shouldn't have been directed at you. I need to read better and make sure of who I'm calling out. My mistake, sorry!

How to set up dreambox dm800 satellite receiver

The easiest way to start may be to find an image (firmware) backup and flash that to your box. Many have posted backups of their image that are set up and ready for use. Be sure to find the correct image for your box model.

If you want to set every thing up yourself from scratch, there are many things to explain. Better if you try first and then ask the specific questions about the problems.
Most things you set up from the menu, like Audio/Video settings, network, language, satellite dish setup etc. And some other things you might need some other tools and knowledge to do, like ftp and telnet.
For reading your smartcard for watching encryted channels you might need to download a softcam. On some firmwares this is easy enaugh from the menu, on others this is not so easy accessable.
Please just try, and then ask. Be sure to tell the exact problem and what image you are using.
One good source for images and more information is sat-universe.com

Help please - my E1 has had new chip fitted to sort the display problems and that seems fine now (at extra cost!) my problem is the sticky rubberized finish is starting to break up and looks and feels...

One owner on eham.com remarked that he soaked the cabinet in rubbing alcohol, after opening the unit and removing the pc boards. Whatever chemical is effective I believe the lettering would be destroyed.

My Starmate 5 constantly has to acquire signal in my car at home it works perfectly.Any suggestions?

Check the antenna's connector for your car based antenna. Sometimes the little finger tabs need to be gently pushed back towards the center to make a better connection. Be careful not to move them more than a precision screwdrive blade's width or you might snap it off.

If it is reading "ACQUIRING SIGNAL" WHAT CAN THIS MEAN??

This typicall represents a failed antenna with either a loose connection or failed wire to the antenna. The "Acquiring Signal" indicates the receiver is trying to locate and decipher a signal from a sattelite. THe antenna is your first diagnostic. After that the receiver is the culprit. When your receiver is Activated or Authorized it is given a "key" to decipher the sattelite signals If it loses the "key" you can try and have Sirius reinitialize by contacting support. If they cannot send the signal and get the proper "Key" loaded its a defect in the receiver functionality.

Can't get refresh signal to work for xm radio

to reset the radio - it must be removed from the dash and unplugged.
Be sure to write down any anti-theft codes if your radio requires them.

However - since your radio is getting the 2 channels - it is working properly. The problem lies in XM turning on your account.

Be sure to get the correct # off the radio... sometimes there is a transposition error with paperwork.
The number can be gotten by setting your radio to channel 0. This is your radio ID# required to activate the radio.

Your Radio is working fine - call XM and stay on the line until they activate your account.

I have a suspicion the number was written down improperly.

Be sure when you call that the car is on, and that it is tuned to station #1... also - it can take 15-20 minutes to activate - and must be left on for the duration to catch the activation signal that is sent out.

Here are the steps from XM to activate manually-

Get Your XM Radio Activated Online

Step1 Turn on your XM radio and tune it to channel 0. The display will read your XM radio's identification number. This number will include both letters and numbers. Write this number down and head to your computer.

Step2 Log onto the Internet and go to the XM radio website. A high speed connection to the Internet will make this go faster, but you can activate your XM radio online with dial up.

Step3 Click on the tab that says to activate a new XM radio. This will take you to a screen where you will enter your XM radio's identification number. Type this in.

Step4 Choose a screen name and password to make an account on the XM web site. The screen name should be something that you will easily remember. The password needs to be at least 7 characters long and include 1 capital letter, 1 lowercase letter, and 1 number.

Step5 Enter your personal information for the activation of your XM radio. This information will include your name, address, and email address. You will also need to choose which service plan you will want to purchase for your XM radio. Enter your credit card payment to finish purchasing your activation of your XM radio online.

Step6 Turn on your XM radio and tune it to channel 1. XM will send a signal out to your XM radio to activate it. You will need to leave the radio tuned to channel 1 for 15 to 20 minutes to activate it.

If you have additional questions or concerns - please ask me first before moving on to another expert.

Since Sirius took over, MY XM Roady will not stay on a station.

I called XM Radio and told them my problem. They told me to park my car in the drive way and turn on my XM Roady, an within the next three hours they would send a signal from the sattelite to fix the radio. Withing less than 30 minutes they had fixed it, and it works fine now.

XM and Sirius radios have merged and that is what caused the problem.
