Can't get my GPS to turn on with the Garmin 405

I did my initial set up and it picked up a signal to set the time but when I go to training and hit start it shows GPS Off.

How do I get it on and off?

I too was frustrated because of this. I played with the watch until I found the solution. Hope this helps!

For some reason I needed to be in the training mode to do this.

From the Time/Date mode, do the following:
1.) Press the start/stop button (upper metal button) to get out of Time/Date mode
2.) Press the Training side of the bezzle. You will see a workout display.
3.) Touch the GPS side of the bezzle until "to location" shows up
4.) Press the lap/reset button (lower metal button) to display a menu (may have to do this a couple of times, eventually when you release the button the menu does show up)
5.) Slide downward through the menu options until you find GPS
6.) Click the start/stop button (upper metal button) to toggle the gps on or off
7.) Press the lap/reset button (lower metal button) to exit the menu (goes to the "to a location" screen)
8.) Press and hold the Training side of the bezzle to return to your training screen

Using the bezel push at 'GPS' until screen changes then select GPS by rubbing round bezel. GPS I guess will be showing that it is 'off'. Tap bezel at 'GPS' and display should change to 'GPS on'. I turn GPS off and on for every training session as apparently always leaving on drains battery power more quickly.

Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

Can't acquire signal

You can't, there will always be times and places where the unit can't pickup satellites.

Have you tried hitting view map or set a destination, just checking.

If you have and it can't show it, it's because it can't pickup satellites where you are.

128 garmin ; takes long time to pick up signal and most the time it dos nt and keeps turning off .should i buy a sledge hammer

I wouldnt do that just yet (hit it with a sledge hammer I mean...lol) First make sure its fully charged up that could cause a delay and also cause it to keep turning off on you. After a full charge if it continues to do this then go to www.garmin.com At the top right of the page click on My Garmin and either set up an account or put your user name and password in if you know it. Then go to technical support and ask them about repairing your unit. Explain to them what it is doing and what would the cost be to have it repaired.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me a Yes that I did help you with your problem. Thank you.

CANNOT GET itv1. NEED TO RETUNE BUT DOESN'T PICK

Good Day,

Try this to reset your programming, but try to reset the whole set by unplugging TV and BOX from power source for 3-5 minutes then plug power cord back into power source. If that does not work try this:

Option Menu Setup
Follow the steps below for the initial set-up:
1. Select the "MENU" display by pressing the "MENU" button once.
2. Press the number buttons "0", "1", "7", "0" in sequence to select
the "OPTION MENU" display.
3. Press the "ADJUST" button to select "INITIAL."
4. Press "ENTER."
NOTE: At this time channel 3 is automatically selected.

I have a Tom Tom GPS and all of a sudden it says searching for satellite signal but never picks one up. Any suggestions?

To pinpoint your location, you need to get signals from at least 4 satellites. If you receive signals from less than 4 satellites or the signals are not strong enough, the Driving View stays grey and one of the following messages is shown in the bottom right corner of the Driving View:
  • Waiting for a valid GPS signal…
  • The GPS signal was lost … sec ago
Note: In previous versions of the TomTom application the message may vary.

If you see any of these messages, try the following:

Finding a GPS signal
In the following cases it can take up to 5 minutes to find your current position:
  • You use your TomTom device for the first time.
  • You haven't used your TomTom device for a longer time.
  • Your TomTom device has been relocated without using it (e.g. after travelling by plane or train).
If it takes longer than 5 minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
Once your TomTom device has located your current position, the Driving View is shown in full colour and shows your position on the map.
Tip: Most TomTom devices can use QuickGPSfix™ to locate your current position faster.

Clear View
Your TomTom device must be outdoors to locate your current position.
Try repositioning your device in your car; ideally, try to position it at the lowest possible point directly on the windscreen.
Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windscreen, which may prevent your device from locating your current position. If this is the case in your vehicle, use the TomTom External Antenna Kit (available as an accessory).
Tip: As a reference, place your device outside your parked car to see if it can find your current position.

Make sure battery is fully charged before use

Reset your device

GPS problems wit a Garmin Forerunner 405

The instructions say touch and hold GPS and to go outside away from tall buildings and to remain stationary for several minutes. Not really sure what their definition of several minutes is guess thats their way of saying "sit still for as long as it takes." If that doesnt work I would get in touch with Garmin. 1-800-800-1020
