SOURCE: Craftsman 18.5 riding mower when I engage the

craftsman decks have a positive stop adjustment for the decks. A spring atached to the blade ingadgement arm pulls the tension pully into position if the cable is rusted inside the sleeve it wont put enough pull on the ingadgment pully and thus the blades dont spin full force the belts on the mowers have no adjustments only the pully . second thing is you may want to drop the deck and clean around that pully by scraping any rust off the surface under the pullys slide good luck

SOURCE: My craftsman 15.5HP kohler riding mower turns over

Try cleaning or better yet, replacing the spark plug. Depending on age and how your tractor was maintained, there are other possible causes.

  • Gummed up fuel system
  • dirty fuel filter
  • defective or misaligned armature/magneto (part that causes your plug to spark, igniting the air/fuel mixture, thus starting the engine)
  • throttle linkage/cable problems
  • low oil level. Some Kohler engines use a low oil shut down sensor which won't allow the engine to run or start to avoid internal damage.
  • Mechanical engine problems

How to fix my craftsman riding mower, whcih dies after engaging blade

make sure blades not jammed. with mower off, try turning blades by hand.
it could either be a safety switch in the seat or for the reverse paddle.
make sure its not in reverse when you attempt to engage blades.
you should be able to bypass both switches with a jumper wire for testing purposes. if it works with jumper, replace the switch(s).

Why won't my riding lawnmower shift into reverse?

Some mowers will not allow you to shift into reverse with the blades engaged for safety reasons. Try disengaging the blades then shift into reverse.

It may have a safety lock on it causing you to not use the blades in reverse. My 07 craftsman has that safety feature.

Blade engagement lever won't disengage

If this is a manual engagment system all the lever does is to pull a jockey wheel into the back of the belt to tention it thus starting the blades to turn, so either the cable is jammed that pulls the jockey wheel in, or the jockey wheel arm is seized and needs freeing off to allow the jockey to to move to the relaxed position.

Craftsman dlt2000 20 hp kohler runs great until i try to engage blades pull up on the switch to engage and motor bogs and stalls

Now is a great time to remove the deck and sharpen the blades! In the process, you will find your problem. Look for clogs, seized bearings, freely rotating belts, etc... The problem is in the deck or drive belt. Hope this helps!

I have 16 hp Craftsman riding mower with a Kohler engine.

It may think you are in reverse and is killing the motor to keep you from backing up with the blade running. Look for switch that is telling it when you are in reverse, maybe it is stuck with grass or other debris. another possibility is that the blades are jammed and they are stalliing the motor. Mines stalls easily when cold.
