There is a 15 pin connector on the side or back. With the laptop turned off, connect the monitor cable to the laptop and then turn it back off. Press the Fn key and the F7 key at the same time to switch between the two displays. Always disconnect and connect the monitor with the laptop off.

Can you use hotspot from your smartphone to an LED flat screen computer monitor to watch movies

Yes, if the computer is able to join your hotspot and you have enough data. Keep in mind that you are accessing a stream that is being used by many people at once (typical cellular tower), and quality may be reduced.

Else, if you don't have some sort of computer hooked up to the monitor, no, you cannot watch a video.

Can a laptop be connected to this monitor

Short answer - Yes.
Here you can see the connection options of the monitor:
a179-2152-call06-jfwd.jpg
It has a (white) DVI and a (blue) VGA connector. Your laptop (although you didn't mention what model you have) should have at least one of them.
Note: The monitor has no HDMI. Since the monitor has no speakers, this is not important.

Let me know if you have more questions - happy to help.

My compaq presario f500 laptop monitor wont stay lit. It seems to be a loose wire or something because i can get it to turn on temporarily by swiveling the monitor on its hinges. Any help would be greatly...

Ok. I have this exact same laptop and not so much the exact same issue. But I can tell you, screen issues are one of the problems that goes with a laptop that is GOING TO FAIL.

Go to hplies.com and you will see almost 2,000 users with the same issue. The problem lies with the nVIDIA GFX chip on the motherboard. THE ISSUE IS UNREPAIRABLE. Any repairs will force the laptop to fail again.

This issue has actually landed me in small claims court where I am suing for hte full cost of this laptop because not only is hte laptop defective, nVIDIA admitted it, and HP covered it up.

Join us at hplies.com and we will give you the know how to get this issue fixed/your $ back. We even have links to all of the information!

Dell monitor and acer one laptop

Yes, you can connect. BUT, after that right click on the desktop and select Properties->Settings. There you will find two monitor icons. The left one is your Acer display while the right one is your new Dell Display. Select the right one and configure it. You should have the same resolution and color as the main Acer display to use it optimally.

Laptop monitor has a big black spot

If it is actually booting, then you should hear some beeps as it starts, if there are actual problems with the system &/or hard drive.. You need to count the beeps & report them here, so we can decide what the problem is.. If the system is starting up ok & it's a screen related fault, the easiest way to test is to connect an external monitor, via the external monitor port. Most laptops have them. In fact I know the Dell 1100 does. Once you have connected the monitor, there is a sequence of keys on the keyboard to press, to switch to the external monitor. This will prove where the problem is..

However, I have some sad news for you.. Apparently there is a law suit against Dell (Class Action in fact) for overheating CPUs.

I think your 'video' problem is most likely because of that, then a faulty screen. There is a rather complicated procedure for fixing the problem here:
http://www.danandsherree.com/2005/04/02/our_dell_inspiron_11.php

This something you should really think about doing, if it's already not too late. I know it looks complicated, but if you know someone who knows how to use tools, it should be done.

Also, if you want to join the class action.. Here it is:
http://www.lieffcabraser.com/dell-inspiron-3.htm

Lots of luck with all this. Feel free to talk if you need help.
Rgds,
dave
