Hi,

Initially, have you tried setting the Amana ARB190RCC into a defrost cycle. This could be done by adjusting the defrost timer. This is located in the refrigerator section of the the Amana ARB190RCC. it would be on the ceiling, right in front between 2 light bulbs. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver to turn it clockwise till the refrigerator stops running. This should be done when the frost buildup is as you feel would need defrosting.

Pls wait for about 5 minutes to verify that the defrost heater powers up. The defrost heater is located below the evaporator coil in your freezer. In the event that the defrost heater fails to power up, then this could be indicative that the defrost thermostat has failed and therefore would needs looking into or even replacement.

Incidentally, you could use a continuity tester (DVM or VOM) to check the defrost thermostat that is with refrigerator unplugged from the mains. There are some reported common issues on failures of the defrost thermostat.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

A defrost timer controls the entire defrost operation. It initiates the
defrost cycle, controls the operation of the compressor and defrost
heaters, and is part of the defrost termination.

Heat pump freezes up and will not defrost

You either have a bad defrost board or bad temp sensor. Need to have a qualified technician check it. To manually defrost set your unit to cool for a few minutes.

Keeps frezing up have tryed all trouble shooting guides but stii does it after running for awhile day or night

Hi,
I'm Leo
This is a common defrost problem, The ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. he fan can't blow into ref.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check evaporator fan in freezer
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
If this was helpful please rate me

Sir i have a whirpool top freezer ,top work ok, but low fredge not, any sugestion ,i understand drenaige is clogging and frozen . tanks rc technic support has quit

This could be the back cover has either been removed or fell off when you moved it.This will cause the compressor to run hot and not cool as wel
I'm adding some defrost problems that could be happening too.l.

On carrier model 25HCB318A300 there are 3 switches to set the defrost time from 30 60 and 90 min. the diagram shows 2 switches. which 2 switches actually set the time. One has on beside it is that included...

Hello
On that model the 30 60 and 90 are times unit will be in defrost.

So depending on how long you feel the need to defrost ,set accordingly.

If this is a refrige usually 30 min is fine.If a freezer 60 min should work.

Fridge not working but the freezer is? What is the problem?

sounds like a defrost problem. remove back freezer panel and look for ice on coils which restricts air to the Ref.
Take your mod number to an appliance parts store and they will sell the parts to fix the defrost system. Most all parts are in behind freezer Panel at the coils.

The freezer side is very cold but in the refrigerator not much cold.

Check evaporator fan inside the freezer
Check condensor fan underneath in back
Check for ice buildup in the evaporator coils (Defrost Problem.)
Also ice and/or frost on the back wall of freezer (defrost problem)
Check air vent for ice block from freezer to refrigerator inside the fridge.
Should have low air volume to fridge from freezer.

If this was helpful please rate me.

Verry noisy defrost. Can you manually put into defrost

How old is the unit? Usually a high pitch sound in a motor is a dry bearing which eventually will cause the bearing to drag and cause the motor to draw high amps and overheat, some of your older motors have oilers on them that you can oil.
As for manually defrosting your unit, usually you can, by being very careful and opening the wire box cover, on the defrost board there should be two pins that say test, by shorting them together with a screwdriver and holding it for a few seconds it should initiate a defrost. the voltage across the test pins is very low, about 5 volts it won't hurt you or anything and it won't arch or spark.

Fridge not cooling, freezer icing up

this is a very common problem, and guessing we are talking about a domestic refrigerator, it helps to know the details, chances are your defrost heater is not working, and 90% is not the heater, is what controls it the defrost timer, your solution to test this, is defrost the refrigerator, for a few hours your are going to have water everywhere, then turn it back on, it will work for a few days. until you replace the defrost
