Hi,

Initially, have you tried setting the Amana ARB190RCC into a defrost cycle. This could be done by adjusting the defrost timer. This is located in the refrigerator section of the the Amana ARB190RCC. it would be on the ceiling, right in front between 2 light bulbs. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver to turn it clockwise till the refrigerator stops running. This should be done when the frost buildup is as you feel would need defrosting.

Pls wait for about 5 minutes to verify that the defrost heater powers up. The defrost heater is located below the evaporator coil in your freezer. In the event that the defrost heater fails to power up, then this could be indicative that the defrost thermostat has failed and therefore would needs looking into or even replacement.

Incidentally, you could use a continuity tester (DVM or VOM) to check the defrost thermostat that is with refrigerator unplugged from the mains. There are some reported common issues on failures of the defrost thermostat.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Did you check defrost timer.

A defrost timer controls the entire defrost operation. It initiates the
defrost cycle, controls the operation of the compressor and defrost
heaters, and is part of the defrost termination.

Model number KFN9753ID freezer section not freezing. what do you think the problem might be

Might be the defrost timer failing - that happens. The evaporator coils freeze up then, and very little air can pass the ice-clogged evaporator coils.

It's only been happening since the onset of humid summer weather? Check the defrost catch pan underneath - I'll bet it's dry. Defrost the refrigerator manually (unplug the refrigerator, put everything into coolers wrapped in blankets, etc) for a good long while, then plug it back in again - I'll bet the freezer works like gangbusters again for a while. If so, and if it stops again after a day or two... then I'm VERY confident that the defrost timer board is ready for replacement.

f1cdedb3-5e7c-47c1-8d68-7566d4da0a75.jpgSounds to me you may have a defrost failure. In most cases the fresh food compartment will show signs first but your model has an auto damper that may be causing the fresh food section to remain cold. Do you notice frost build up on the rear inside back panel of the freezer? Example HERE. If you do you will need to manually defrost the freezer, remove the rear panel of the freezer and use a hair dryer to melt the ice covering the evaporator coils. Example of ice/frost build up on the evaporator coils HERE The most likely cause for the problem is a defective=> 12002495 Defrost Control Board The defrost board is found inside the fresh food section and inside the control panel. Item 12 in this photo HERE is the defrost control board. Second possibility is the=> 67004948 Defrost Heater Item 7 in photo HERE and is the 67004757 Defrost Thermostat and that item location 3 HERE First the defrost control board needs to be checked for burn marks or signs of heat damage. I am here if you would like me to help you get to the parts I listed above, Thanks Sea Breeze

Kenmore side by side Refrigerator is not cooling , The freezer is working just fine what can I doto fix .

The problem is most likely a defrost problem caused by one of three components that control defrost. Defrost Control, defrost heater and defrost thermostat. To know what your refrigeraytor components are you need to post the model number found around the fresh food section door. The model number for a Kenmore will look like this example=> 106.1068130670 Post ypour model number and I will look up your parts if you like, Thanks Sea Breeze

You can begin by manually defrosting the coils behind the rear wall of the freezer with a hair dryer if frost is present as in this photo HERE If you see that as in first photo the coils behind that panel will look like this HERE

Ge refer model psc25mstass fresh food section not cold enough freezer cooling fine

I realize this is an old post but information is always helpful if it is correct. I have a GE Model TFX22ZRB, Main tools needed are a refridgerator thermometer, a cheap multimeter, 1/4" hex driver, phillip screwdriver and regular blade scewdriver, above all, alow time for tempeture change when measuring tempeture. The freezer is running at -8 degrees C or aproximately 28 degrees F. I don't care about 1 or 2 degrees at this point in the freezer, the defrost system is working ok, The freezer is cold enough. The fresh food section is running at 48 degrees F, the damper is wide open between the freezer and cold food section, I manually removed the damper door and controls since I am only interested in seeing if I can drive the fresh food section colder. Looks like the fresh food thermostate controls the compressor and not the damper to shut off the cooling process when the tempeture gets cold enough. Since the fresh food section does not get cold enough (this should be in the uppers 30s F) there is no need to move the fresh food thermostate out of the normal range setting (mid point in my case) with the operator control. Defrost heaters ok, this unit uses 2 heaters hooked in series with a evaporator coil thermostate also in series with the heaters. Heaters aproximately 25 ohms total risistance, coil thermostate open at room temp and closed when below 32 degrees. Only other item in circuit is the defrost timer, this can be manually advance to open and close the defrost circuit, in my case, when in the defrost mode, the evaporator fan stops and the heaters heat up. The defrost timer in my case has a 12-16 hour cycle time and a 30 min defrost time, so in a 24 hour period I may get only one defrost cycle. One item of importance. make sure something has not fallen in the lower back or the fresh food section of the refridgerator to block the air flow return, this will effect the coo;ing process. Now with the damper wide open, the defrost circuit working ok I am going to look at the evaporator fan itself for speed, shifted blades or the air circulation between the freezer and the fresh food section, I have cleaned the condenser coils but I am leaving the condensor and compressor out of the equation since the freezer is cold enough but at this point I am considering the possibility, I may need to replace the fridge if the compressor is not working to par.

On my Maytag side by side, stainless steel fridge, Model #: MSD2651KES. The freezer works perfectly, but the fridge will not get cold, but if you open the freezer it will start sending cold air to the...

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Fridge section not cold, freezer section o.k.!

Normally, the cold is only generated in the freezer compartment, and then the cold is pulled or pushed throuch cooling tubes from the freezer section to the refrigerator section. So if your cooling tubes become blocked by ice (usually caused by a defrost circuit failure) then the freezer will seem to work fine but the refrigerator section will not receive the cold air it should.

Suggest you remove the food from the freezer section, then remove the shelves and then the back panel of the freezer. If there is a lot of ice on the evaporator then you should manually defrost the unit. Unplug it from the wall and use a hair dryer to melt the ice. There will be an entrance to a cooling tube right below the evaporator make sure the you keep blowing the hot air from the hair dryer down than tube until you can feel it in the refrigerator section.

If there was ice, you also need to troubleshoot the defrost circuit and find out which component failed. It is normally made up of the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer and troubleshooting methods can be found in the tips section.

NOTE: There will be a lot of water to deal with when you defrost your freezer so make sure you are ready to handle it with buckets and large sponges or a wet/dry vac.

Freezer works great, but refrigeration section stopped working

Check the door seals on fridge and freezer to make sure there are NO leaks.
Try manually adjusting air flap that controls air from freezer to fridge, the flap may be frozen or the actuator that controls the flap may be faulty.

Freezer not defrosting

The reason it is not defrosting is one of three things. First and most likely is that the Defrost Thermestat (aka BiMetal) is open and needs to be replaced, secondly it could be that the defrost timer is bad and lastly the heater can be bad. The bimetal and heater are found behind the back panel in the freezer section. The time is usually located near the controls in the fridge section. I would need you entire model number to tell you exactly where it is. To replace the either part is fairly straight forward. With the full model number I can walk you through the easiest way to test each part.
