Question about AcerPower Se PC Desktop

Acer AM5100-e5311a - Does it support PCI-Express v2.0?

I'm interested in replacing the onboard video (ATI) by installing a GeForce 9800GT card. While the motherboard does have a slot for a PCI-Express card, I'm curious to whether it's a 1.0 or 2.0 PCI-E? (I believe all GeForce 9 series cards are strictly v2.0 support)

If it is a 1.0, is there a BIOS fix for this to accept the 2.0 versions? Or is this strictly a hardware limitation?

Thanks!

PCI-E is backwards convertible with any other version. Don't worry about mixing versions up. Instead ensure you select the right size. x 16 is the standard right now. Just pick up any card that is a x16 and you'll be fine.

Hello i want to ask i question , which nvidia drivers is da best and stable for Geforce 9800GT win764bit .

The drivers right off the Nvidia site would be your best bet. When Windows 7 RC was released to the public Nvidia had put out drivers for the OS to test it and make sure that when it launched they would have working drivers.

I would like to upgrade the graphics.

Yes, if you are running onboard video, and have an open PCI Express slot (or two), you can go out and get yourself a better video card. I would recommend getting sticking with ATI or Nvidia chipset cards, made by a company with a decent warranty. Lots of manufacturers make cards that use the Nvidia or ATI chipsets, but saving $10 isn't worth the headache if/when it blows up. I personally like the GeForce 200 series (240,250,280,295,etc..) or the slightly older 9800GT series cards. All of these are available in 512MB and 1024MB versions, and should all work fine with your system.

Upgrading graphics card

Connect the monitor to the onboard video connector first. then
you need to disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS save the setting and shutdown. Then connect the monitor to the GeForce video connector and boot up then you will get a video signal on the GeForce video card.

Graphics Comparison

I beleive that your onboard is pretty much the equivelent to the geforce card you have spec-wise. But the 3300 a much new technology and has a faster processing speed in comparison to the geforce 6600 (not sure about the 7200).

In anycase, if you get yourself another ATI HD card (2400, 3450, or 3470) you can actually run them both as a Crossfire set up. Also, you can slight overclock your onboard video just a tad if that is a route you wanted to take.

The HD 3300 onboard was meant to be a better option over more entry level cards on the market today.

If you're still not sure, you can always do a 3dmark or gaming FPS test on each gpu to see which gives you the best outcomes.

Are You sure the graphics card is not defect?
When I installed a graphics card instead of the onboard
circuit, the SIS Mirage was disabeled automatically.
I have installation CD for the graphics, of course.
Also, I thought that disabeling devices could be done
through the control panel, "hardware devices".
