My visio file (.vsd) will not open. Started redrawing last night, several hours, because visio will not open my original drawing.

it sounds like the programme has somehow become degraded and corrupt, you can either, reistall the application or back up your drawings to removeable media i.e. cd/dvd, flash drive or external drive and then perform a system restore, you will find the restore in start menu, programmes, accessories, system tools, try to choose a restore point to a date before the problems started

I hope this helps you out

    good luck

I get error 114 when trying to open a Visio file with Visio 2000. The helpline number 0800 834859 is defunct.

Either upgrade to the latest version of Visio, or have whoever created the drawing resave the file in the Visio 5.0 format.

To save a Visio 2000 drawing in the Visio 5.0 format:
  1. Open the Visio 2000 drawing.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save as Type box, click Visio 5 Drawing (*.vsd), and then click Save.

Can you convert micrografix draw files to another file format

Each Micrografx Designer 3.1 *.drw file should hold one page of drawings, and that one page should be at page 1 in the Micrgrafx layout.

Corel Designer Technical Suite X5 has a free 30-day trial period. This program will import a Micrografx Designer *.drw file and let you SAVE AS or EXPORT AS an *.svg file.

Many current drawing programs, e.g., Visio, can import this *.svg file and let you save as a *.vsd file.

But if your *.drw file contained many pages of drawings, your converted file will have many pages of drawings but often in a single large page that you cannot edit. So safer to start out with *.drw files that each contain one page, and that one page should be drawn at page 1 within Micrografx Designer.

I have used the above method to convert very old Micrografx Designer 3.1 *.drw files to Visio *.vsd files. One problem was the Greek letters that were italics in the *.drw file are not italics in the *.vsd file.

Convert CAD (DWG) to Visio Drawings

You can import graphics files of different formats to start a new Visio drawing by using the Open command on the File menu.
The following graphics file formats are supported:
  • AutoCAD Drawing File Format (.dwg, .dxf)
  • Compressed Enhanced Metafile (.emz)
  • Enhanced Metafile (.emf)
  • Graphics Interchange Format (.gif)
  • JPEG File Interchange Format (.jpg)
  • Portable Network Graphics (.png)
  • Scalable Vector Graphics Drawing (.svg, .svgz)
  • Tag Image File Format (.tif, .tiff)
  • Windows Bitmap (.bmp, .dib)
  • Windows Metafile (.wmf)
Note File formats may vary slightly between language versions. You may not get exactly the same results if you import files created in different language versions.
  1. On the File menu, click Open.
  2. In the Files of type box, click the file format of the file you want to import.
If you don't see the file format listed, Visio doesn't have a file filter for that format. Try saving the document in a format Visio can open.
