Question about Sony KP-51HW40 51" Rear Projection Television
I was given a 52in Sony rear projection tv, pretty sure it is a late 90's or early 00's. I have never owned a rp before so I am not sure if I have a problem with it. I have been told, by a friend, that the picture is cloudy and that the rp's have a fluid within the screen and that mine needs be changed. I was not aware they had fluid, the only thing I knew I may need at some point to change is the projection light within the tv. 1. Do rear projections have fluid within the screen? 2. If so can I change this myself? 3. And if I can change it, where is the access for this most likely located? Thank you for the help, Lee
I havent heard of any sony RP picture tubes having bad coolent fluid inside them. Most sets that had that were Magnavox. On a RP TV set, open the reflection area , most of the time the screen gets removed, clean the mirrors and lens and turn on the set. look down inside the lens at each red blue and green picture. If it looks cloudy, the fluid will need to be changed. if it does not look messed up, you might have corrected the problem by cleaning the mirrors and lens. This is not a job for a Handi-man to do. It alot of work and too may things can go wrong. If you really like the set, contact a servicer to do this for you but I have seen this to cost up to 400 b ucks, Good Luck

I,m not a tech but i,ve been told by a techinican that those tubes do have fluid and it,s not an easy fix to change the fluid i was told the tube has to be removed and a tech told me it would run around 200.00 by the time the tech removes it puts the fluid back in and reinstalls it and after it,s reinstalled the convergance has to be reset that,s what realigns the colors back to their correct position and i,ve heard this isn,t an easy job so i,d probably get a techinican to fix it but that,s up to you someone might have an easier opinion but the tech i talked to is one of the best thanks and maybe you can help me i have a blue tube on my big screen tv that wont light upcould you give me some insite as to what you know about a projection light that you said that may need changed think that may be my problem your welcomed to call me about this at 270-566-4327 anytime soon as possible thanks
