Audio speakers will not play

The AC-97 speakers will not play any sound though the device is enabled.

I have a nec vy16f/rf-r notebook. i have tried to install realtek ac 97 audio drivers but it still shows yellow marks !

No audio and sound


First we have to determine whether or not you have the required drivers installed in order for the operating system to communicate with your sound playback device. Following is the keyin sequence for Windows XP - The key-ins will differ somewhat for other Windows operating systems:
Click on START
Right Click on MY COMPUTER
Tnen click on PROPERTIES followed by HARDWARE and then DEVICE MANAGER.
Double click on SOUND, VIDEO and GAME CONTROLLERS
Your sound playback device (such as Avance AC 97 Audio) should be listed. And there should NOT be a yellow exclamation mark in the left margin (If there is, this is an indication that the device is not working properly - see CORRECTIVE ACTIONS below.
Double click on your sound playback device.
In the device status box you should see the statement "This device is working properly"
If you get any other messages indicating that drivers are required or need to be updated, see CORRECTIVE ACTIONS below.
If everything look OK, click on the "X" in the upper right corner to close device manager.
If everything was OK in device manager we will now see if the operating systen is sending sound to your playback device.
Click on START
Click on CONTROL PANEL
Select the Classic View (If not already displayed)
Click on SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES
Double Click on AUDIO DEVICES
Click on the AUDIO tab.
In the Sound Playback dialog box your sound device (something like "AC 97 Audio") should be listed. If it is not, click on the pull-down menu and select it if you can..
If it is NOT listed, see CORRECTIVE ACTIONS below.
If it is listed, perform the following tests:
Click on the SOUNDS tab
Set the Sound Scheme to WINDOWS DEFAULT
Click on APPLY and OK
In the Program Events dialog box, click on any event that has a speaker Icon to the left of it
Underneath the Program Events dialog box you will see a small box with a triangle inside
If the triangle is black that means that the operating system has recognized your sound playback device (sound card).
Click on the triangle.
You should hear the sound through your speakers (the triangle will change to a rectangle while the sound is playing)
After the sound plays the black triangle will re-appear.
If the triangle is black and changes to a rectangle when you click on it and you DO NOT hear sound through your speakers either your speakers are plugged into the wrong jack or you have a problem with your speakers. Test or replace the speakers.
If the triange is gray that means that the operating system does not recognize your sound playback device (sound card). See CORRECTIVE ACTIONS below.

CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
If the playback device is built into the motherboard, the device may not be enabled in the BIOS. Check your BIOS settings. If your sound device is disabled, enable it and repeat this procedure.
If you do not have built-in sound on your motherboard you will need a sound card installed in an expansion slot on the motherboard. This card may not be present. If there is no sound card, install one and then repeat this procedure.
If you do have a playback device installed and enabled and either you have an error indication, drivers are not installed, or device manager reccommends a driver update, you will have to download drivers from either the motherboard or sound card manufacturer's web site. Also, if the drivers are installed and you no have no error messages, but you do not hear sound when you click the black triangle, you may have a hardware problem on your motherboard or sound card.. At this point, you may want to get some help from a qualified PC technician.

I dont have sound in my computer.how i know what is required


Please perform the following tests to isolate your sound problem.

There is no sound device installed on my computer


Mercury P4VM800M7
Check the Audio jumpers on the motherboard.
See page 1, (AUDIO1). There should be two jumpers over pins 9&10 and pins
5&6 for the rear audio ports to function. See pages 17 in you’re manual for a closer look.
Next check the bios. See pages 30 in you’re manual.
Bios, Audio setting should be set to [Enabled]. Save and exit the bios.
Open windows control panel than open Sound and Audio Devices icon.
Check the Audio tab and the Voice tab. Both should list as AC'97.
If not re-install you're audio software from the CD that came with you're MB.

If you still receive feed-back try another speaker system. (Still no change)? Audio controller is defective. Replace with a PCI sound card.

No sound (AsRock P4 Combo)


1.
Check the speaker connections - take the plugs out and put them back.
Make sure the speakers get power.
Test the sound with headphones.
If it is a Laptop be sure the speakers are turned on (Usually an Fn function key).

Load a system restore point from a date before the sound problem started.

3.
Has the audio service been started by Windows?
Click Start > Run > type services.msc - then click OK.
In the new window - Scroll down to "Windows Audio", right-click on it and select Properties.
Another new window - set the startup type to Automatic, click Apply and then click Start.

Have a look in "Play control" and any other sound mixer you may have installed to check if the sound is muted.
Go to Control Panel >> Sounds and Audio Devices.
Check to see if your sound card is listed.
If no audio device is detected proceed to step 5.

Be sure the Volume is turned up (at least half way).
The MUTE box should not be checked (go to the advanced window and make sure that nothing is muted).
Select the proper speaker settings under speaker settings advanced tab.
Set the speaker setup settings accordingly.

Is your sound card the default playback device?
Right click the speaker icon next to the clock >> Choose "Adjust Audio Properties".
Click on the Audio tab and select the correct device.
If you make any changes - click Apply, then OK before you close the window.

If you use another type of audio program, please refer to that program's trouble shooter for diagnostics.

Creative Sound Card owners can try this:
Click Start >> Programs >> Creative >> "Sound Card", for example Audigy >> Creative Restore Defaults.

Check to see if the sound card is properly installed in the Device Manager.

Right click My Computer >> Properties >> Hardware Tab >> Device Manager >> in the "View" menu - click "Show hidden devices".

If there are yellow or red "marks" next to the audio, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus" or an unknown device - install drivers (see step 6).

If Windows does not detect an ONBOARD (Integrated) sound card >> Check to see if it is ENABLED in the BIOS (Setup).
If Windows does not detect a PCI sound card (an Added sound card) >> Shut the computer down, disconnect power. Take the sound card out and put it back again - if possible, use another PCI slot.

5.
Install available Windows updates, including DirectX.
Go to Start >> All Programs >> Windows Update.

6.
Installing drivers:

6a. Install the chipset driver first >> Reboot.

6b. If a "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus" is present in Device manager >> install the driver >> Reboot.

6c. Uninstall old sound drivers:
Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel for an Audio device driver (i.e. AC97).
Go to the Device Manager and uninstall the driver (Right click on the device >> uninstall).

Install the sound driver >> Reboot.

The drivers to install can be found on a CD that came with the computer/motherboard/sound card.
