My iriver T10 is not being detected

When I plug it into the usb the computer does not detect my device, on top of that the installation cd just installs windows media player, not the iriver software. The iriver screen sayas usb connect, but the computer acts like nothings is there. No errors, just nothing.

    Frit,

Dude how can we upgrade the firmware if our computer DOES NOT recognize the T10? Unfortunately, I have the same problem. Does anybody know how to fix it?

  • hrdnox Mar 06, 2008

Same Problem here - only difference is, I had just gotten unit back from iRiver after repairing a problem with the unit - it wouldn't power on at all. Now that the problem is fixed and the unit seems okay - it isn't being recognized by the computer.

When iRiver had their own software to put music on the device everything was great, then they relied on Windows Media Player to work - which it doesn't seem to.

    Same problem here. ARRRGH!

  • ike 1 Mar 09, 2008

This PC, and three (3) other, that I have tried to copy music form CDs to my MP3 will not allow me to do that. Media player opens up, there is an icon for iRiver but none the less, I CANNOT trasfer the songs. I/We have tried transfering from Libray with list etc. and that would not work is the reason we tried the "simple" approach of dowloading the songs to CDs, wich will play on Media Player but not "transfer", IKE.

Have had this T10 for ages, one day I plugged it into my PC (XP HOME) and it didnt recognise, at the time I didnt have the time to sort it out.

so I left it a week or two plugged it in again and it worked.

however after that day... it only shows 'USB Connect' on the T10 LCD and absolutly nothing happens on the PC not even the noise that you get when ANY usb device is connected :( I won this t10 and it has been great until now... I am hoping this can be fixed.... Please Some One HELP!!!!

That happend to me and i found a solution. First go to my computer and on your left click on VIEW SYSTEM INFORMATION then go to HARDWARE now click in DEVICE MANAGER it should say T10 around there look for T10 or IRIVER T10 and click on it press in UPDATE THIS TIME ONLY or an option you like and click next then click on the RECOMENDED OPTION to install the iriver t10 after you do that a magnifying glass should appear and wait and it would install saying MTP.
If still need help send me a message at NOHEMYGIRALDO@SBCGLOBAL.NET

Try to re-format it. on player go to settings, then advanced then format. select format, say yes and it should reboot. if that doesn't work you need to upgrade the firmware. got to iriveramerica.com, support, ultra portabale support and download firmware updater software. Not a bad idea to upgrade firmware in either case. Your music will be lost when you format but you can simply re-load it from your music manager on your PC. iriver only uses windows media player now. there is no iriver software anymore.

Thank you! I tried the other solution from Spiky and was very disappointed when that did not work. I have a new iriver which worked the first time I uploaded music. This time I couldn't get the cmputer to recognize the device..malfunction message kept popping up. Even though I ws nervous about losing all the music by re-formatting, decided to go ahead with it. Thankfully, it has worked! Do you know if this is a permanent fix or if this could re-occur? what could be the underlying reason? will the firmware upgrade fix it for a longer term? Again, thank you for sharing this solution!!!

Install windows media 10 or 11. I prefer 10. Your computer will then "see" the T10 storage device.

I'm going to add something to Spiky2033, whose advice I used and helped me get what I need. I selected the "recommended option" however you are also cued to put in the CD-ROM if you have it. If you have it, then only insert the CD when cued. The Device Manager will start searching and it will begin with the CD. It found the driver on the iRiver CD. Now, to most folks (including me), the CD looks as if it only helps you download Media Player. However, to my surprise, Device Manager found the driver software.

Spiky2033's solution worked like a charm! Just make sure the device is plugged in and turned on. I did not have to put in a disk or anything.

I was having the same trouble... The updater that I could find directly via iRiver support did not work, but based on one of the other tips, I googled for the Version 2.7.0.0 updater ([MTP] iriver Firmware Updater for MTP devices).
http://www.iriver.com/flash/popup/flash_pop.asp?board=down&code=736

I recommend that you try the "normal" updater from the website (maybe yours is not an MTP version), and if that can't recognize your player, try the updater from the link above.

Note: The updater seemed to hang at 50% for over 5 minutes... I gave up and unplugged it. Then it asked me if I wanted to upgrade the firmware. "OK," I said. It took a few minutes. The screen went blank. I put in a fresh battery. Turned it on. It works. I was able to use Media player 11 to synch some songs to it.

BTW: It did blow away all the songs on the device, even though I chose "update" instead of "recover".

Computer shops sell USB cables. Take your Iriver player with you to the computer shop because the USB cables come with different size connectors and you need one that fits your player.

Does you computer detect a new device when you plugged the Coby MP3 player?
If Coby MP3 player has cd driver, better to install it to your pc. Some computer/laptop doesn't detect autoplay when new USB device plug-in

For me, having upgraded Windows Media Player to version 11 caused the problem you are experiencing. Find a computer with Windows Media Player Version 10, then use iRiver's firmware update tool to install new firmware (version 1.77), then your T10 will work fine even with Media Player Version 11.

the iriver series by default is not detected as a usb drive. iriver music manager is needed to transfer files. After a firmware upgrade, the device is usable as a usb hard drive. But you need the music manager software to upgrade

Somehow the driver went missing. Click on "My Computer" and then click "view system information," then "hardware," then "device manager," then click on iRiver (it'll be there even without the driver) and then it will give you a yes/no option to look for driver software. Obviously, click "yes" but notice that you are also cued to put in a CD "if you have one." I still had the CD. It will search both the CD and online for a driver, but the computer found the driver software on the CD. Make sure you only put the CD in when cued to do so. If you don't have the CD, then contact iRiver about getting a driver download or having them send you a copy of the CD.
