Question about ASUS M51Sn-c1 (90N-SFEA143288ECQL0Y) PC Notebook

Asus M-51 series Laptop

I've been experiencing internet connection problems with my laptop. I have a Netgear router. Whenever I move my laptop to a different room, i lose my internet connection. The only way for me to get it back is through restarting my laptop which can be very time consuming. I know the problem does not reside with my router--there are 2 others laptops being used (Dell's) by my roommates and they seem to have no problems with their internet connection. I'm thinking it's my modem??? Can anyone please help?!?!

My Asus laptop has a switch to turn on the antennae so that I can access my wireless internet. Yours might have that too. If not, then I don't know...

A quick idea if you have not already tried it: to narrow down the problem, borrow one of your roommate's laptops and move it to where you lost your connection.

If their connection stays strong while yours drops out in the same place, the problem is more likely to be in your wireless adaptor.

...If it is not your adaptor, then Geekman's advice is the best place to start. Come back if you need help with any of the steps.

If it IS your adaptor (or at least, let's say, the problem is within your laptop)....the 'proper' thing to do would be to send the laptop for service, or return it if it is under warranty. In your position I might try buying and installing USB network adaptor, and see if that solves the problem. They are not too costly, and cheaper/quicker than a service call. :)

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

You need to check the signal strength in the other room and compare it with where you were getting a good signal.
Check the other Access Points/routers in your area, are they broadcasting on the same channel, if they are then change your access point/router to a different channel.
To improve radio reception you may need to move the access point/router to another location away from solid walls etc.
Your wireless card may be as good as your roomates, if possible borrow one of theirs and set it up (configure it) for your laptop and see it it works better.
Try the other options before you buy another wireless card.

make sure to know the network name and network key of your wireless connectivity. then try to sequential powercycle all the equipment. turn off laptop, router and modem. then one by one turn it back on, starting on the modem. make an interval of 3 minutes before turning on the router. then your laptop.

1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

How do I connect my netgear router to my desktop internet to use with my laptop. Followed instructions but when cable is disconnect from my laptop I can't connect to the internet

First Connect the Desktop with Netgear Router with the Ethernet cable. Open the Netgear GUI and configure a Wireless Network. Once its configured, switch On the WiFi switch from your Laptop and try to connect your Laptop. Make sure your laptop has an in-built Wifi adapter, if it doesn't then you would need to buy an USB based Wifi Adapter.

Also if you want to use the Internet with your Desktop PC without being connected with the Netgear Router then make sure it has Wireless connection capability.

I should first thank you for the clear details you have given about your connection .I will try best to help you.The firmware version can be older so check the firmware version and upgrade it. Try to open the netgear smart wizard page in your wired computer by going to www.routerlogin.com or 192.168.1.1.The USERNAME:ADMIN and PASSWORD:PASSWORD(default). We can troubleshoot this only if this page is opened. In the netgear page at left side blue screen under maintenance->router status check the firmare version if its older version then click on router upgrade and check for the new version from internet(click on check tab) and upgrade the firmware.Hope this solves your problem if not try with different laptop wirelessly connect if you are able to connect then its the computer problem contact your computer vendor.Rate me if i have helped you that will motivate me.Thank you.Have a good day.

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

Make sure that your computer is getting a valid IP address from the router. If your wireless network is secured, you might as well consider checking the wireless settings.
