Question about Memorex MVDP1072 Portable DVD Player

1 Answer

Memorex MM-8500 will not load a disc

The screen lights up, everything is fine. I put a disc in the player and close the lid. The screen says "loading", then says "no-disc". I bypassed the lid open switch and watched the laser without a disc. It moves slightly from center, then back to center. The motor does not turn. The laser light does not come on (I don't know if it supposed to).

Thanks

    Hi Ginko,

I apologize. I put a model number, but not what the item is. This an 8.5 inch screen portable DVD player from Memorex, not a laptop.

I understand that lasers are not good for the eyes, and I appreciate that you bring that up for those that may be less careful.

The motor does not even try to move. The light does not come on. I will order the lens as you suggested.

    Thank you,

    Donn

I called the part number you gave me. Unfortunately, they were not able to get parts for Memorex. I will try the Memorex site.

That happens when the lens is dirty or defective.

the motor stops because it does not read the track.

First of all be careful when watching a laser lens in action, if the laser beam hits your eyes it can cause severe damage.

Regarding the lens , what happens is that when lens are dirty or defective, lthe lens pickup will move toward the center of the disk, were it start reading the CD track.

As it cannot read the first track, the pickup goes back in rest position, and the disk stop spinning.

There you get that typical series of spins that do not start the disk running, until the disk stops.

Try cleaning the lens with cotton stubs ans isopropyl alcohol.

If this does not work, then the lens is defective and should be replaced.

Normally on laptops you replace the whole DVD drive, as the unit is not expensive.

If it is the lens , the disk will start pushing a bit, but won't even complete a round.

If it is the motor the disk stays completely still.

Check if the motor belt is in place.

The motor can also be faulty. In this case it should be tested by energizing the motor directly.

I saw it was not a laptop when I looked for parts.

If partstore does not have the spare, try Vance Baldwin Electronics or call Memorex number listed on the user manual.

"Wrong disc" memorex dvd player error

Sounds like a build up of dust on the lens.

2 options -

Either buy a DVD lens cleaner

Note DVD LENS cleaner, NOT DVD Cleaner the latter is for the discs, not the player

or second option is to remove lid from your player (usually 5 or 6 screws) and gently swab the lens with a cotton bud or similar soft lint free product. Try not to push too hard on the lens or you may damage the mechanism.

The lens is really obvious as it faces upwards and looks like a small round clear glass bead.

Make sure its unplugged too!

When I put a dvd in it try's to load and then it reads on the screen "no disc" and It won't play my player is only 5 months old.

Well, first I have to ask if it does load? If it does, and is not reading the disc, it will say, "no disc". DVD's in general are very touchy and the Memorex is not a high quality brand. If only 5 months old, it should still be under warranty.

I put an HD-DVD in my player but it keeps coming back out.

Temporarily you can hold the lid closed with your hand and press play and leave the lid after it loads the disc. But for permanent solutuion you will require to repair its lid switches,

Stuck in Standby

FOr the MVDP1102 Memorex 10.2 portable DVD Player:
I had the same problem. If you open the disc door there is suppose to be a plastic arm underneath the right side of the lid which when you close the lid, with the movie disc in, this arm will press through to a switch inside the machine and that will set the player in load/play mode. Memorex did not have parts for this player, so I unscrewed the bottom and one black screw inside where the lazer light is. This will allow you to handle the bottom back side and see underneath where the screen is you will find the switch. I rigged up a pin wire and did some small drilling. I was successful, but it wasn't easy. Most times I just fail and toss. I thing my son just open the disc door too much and that's how the piece was broken.

Portable dvd player Film's stop and go back to loading screen

Not sure it's a solution, per se, but I discovered that my Matsui was acting as if I was opening and closing it, so I guessed that it was the lid. Once I put a paperweight on the "Press to Open" part of the lid, the DVD played through. I'm looking how to fix the lid but that's a workaround for now. Best of Luck - M
