I can't get my VHS sound to work on analog setting

We see no details about your "VHS sound" device (so we can't look at a manual, which you CAN) and how you have it connected. Presumably you're using analog RCA audio cables. THAT would work on any analog input EXCEPT Phono. Nothing complicated about analog sources. Outs to Ins.

How can i connect an iPod to the mixer and play outdoors through speakers please?

You can use an iPod Connector to RCA Cable, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-35507-Connector-Cable/dp/B000JG3WBY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220974923&sr=8-1&tag=blurayforum-20

Or, you can use an Audio Y Cable, or 1/8" Stereo TRS to RCA Cable, like this one: http://www.superwarehouse.com/p.cfm?p=1539919&CMP=KAC-GoogleShopping&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=1539919

Both of these cables will connect your iPod to your Mixer, as long as your Mixer has RCA input jacks.

I have TX-SR503 onkyo receiver. I want to connect a microphone to it so that I can do a karaoke. The unit does not have a socket for microphone. It has a socket for phones. This socket does not appear...

The reason that jack doesn't work for a microphone is because it's a headphone jack. It's meant to send a signal out to headphones, and it doesn't work as an input. If the receiver doesn't have a microphone input jack (and it would be clearly labeled as such), you'll need to connect your mike through the auxiliary input. You may be able to connect with nothing more than an adapter to switch from the plug on the end of the mike cable to the RCA jacks on your receiver. The output level on some mikes may be high enough to drive the auxiliary input as-is. More likely, though, the mike will need a little boost to make it work with the receiver. The receiver needs a "line-level" input, which is higher than the output of most good-quality mikes. To get the mike up to line level you'll need a microphone preamp. There are many types from many sources, at a wide range of prices. Here's one I have used as an example.

You might also want to look for a small mixer like this. The mixer would let you combine your mike and music source into a single line-level output you could run to the receiver, and use the receiver just for the amplifier function.

Harmon/Karden AVR 230 Surround Sound Receiver

Use your remote to get into the Menu. Look for something called audio, or audio properties. In there you can choose your inputs (sources) and output choices.

On the remote itself, there should be a button called input, or source. That would be for things input to the TV.....such as dvd, vcr.
