Question about Tomtom One XL GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Map directions I am having a lot of problems with missing roads, directions that are not accurate and add travel time and reversed hundred blocks on roads which take me miles out of the way. Is there any indication that Tom Tom will be switching to the NAVTEQ mapping instead of using Tele Atlas

TomTom has merged with Tele Atlas so that's a no go on the NAVTEQ maps. Newly built roads may not immediately show up on your TomTom, but you can definitely try upgrading your maps and using the Map Share feature to keep your maps as up to date as possible

Updated maps on my garmin nuvi 500 and used it in Belfast the last day. The road I was traveling on was not recognised by the garmin. Why would this be when I updated maps

If it was a new road it may be that it was not yet added to the map. If it was an older road it may have been left out of the map by mistake. You can report map errors to Navteq, who make the maps Garmin use, at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/?app.basemap=jsl
I know that may not be much use to you for now but it will be corrected in a later version of the map.

You can buy Maps from Garmin for all the world, cost is about $100.00 for each map package, Europe is the most expensive. Go to www.garmin.com for specific and more accurate pricing.

In rural areas does not foliow most direct route

You can try and see if the right Preference is chosen on menu..... Tools ..... Settings.....Map.... under Avoidances press the Tab..... make sure you just have the correct things you want to avoid chosen if Highway is checked uncheck it.

When you travel and set a place to go to, go down the turn by turn direction before you go and see if its the way you like to travel..... if not you can go to the main menu and take a Detour, it will reroute to a different set of road

Many times my navigation system leads me to roads that are unnecessary to follow (like a tourist-view route), it only costs me more time if I follow exactly the same ways he asks me to follow. I wish it...

Go to Tools.... Settings....Navigation.....under Route Preference set it to Faster Time if you need to change it just press to Shorter Distance or Off Road.... if you change it make sure you press OK n bottom screen

Faster Time I use

Next

Avoidances.....should be Enabled......press it....make sure Highway is Not checked... if you make changes here also press Ok on bottom screen

I only keep checked U-turns ...Traffic...Car Pool ...Unpaved roads

Before you travel, add your route to the GPS, do a trial run from home and see which direction it is taking you by pressing the turn arrows
If that isnt the way you want to go, on the map screen press menu then press detour, this will take you in another direction again scroll down the turns and see the route

My sat nav shows opposite direction map

Binatones run igo. I would recommend finding the latest software and trying an update - then see if the problem still occurs. There is also a setting in the map view for making the map change to the direction of travel - this may be causing an issue.
"austech" is a good place to start.

I also have a Magellan Triton 300 and I can not change it to my time zone.. how can I change it?

From the user manual at http://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/MagellanTriton_300_400_500_UserManual.pdf
it says:
Setting the Time Zone
The time and date information will be computed from information from the GPS satellites so there is
no requirement for you to input any time or date information. However, to make the time accurate
for your location you must select the correct time zone.
1. From the Map screen press MENU.
2. Select View.
3. Select Settings.
4. Scroll down and select Date & Time.
5. Select the Time Zone field.
Press button
momentarily
Fundamentals
5
6. From the drop-down menu, select your current time zone. (Time zones are not changed
automatically when travelling. If you travel to an area with a different time zone, you will
need to change it here for accurate time information.)
7. Repeat the process for the Daylight Savings field.
8. Press ESC when done.

TomTom GPS actual position does not line up on the map

This may not be the answer you are looking for but here goes.

#1 Is this occurring in one area all the time or randomly?

#2 how far are you traveling when ou notice these type of problems is it just a few miles or have you made a large trip.

if this is in a small area and does deviate all the time in the same area I would expec that this is a map issue.

I see that you did mention that you have the most upto date map possible that would be version 8.15

Just remember the map information in your gps is only as good as the map that is in there and it may not be accurate.

With all that said if you could post back the latitude and longitude of where you are discussing i maybe able to check for you if mine is done the same way.

Some roads missing from the map

you want to ensure that you have the latest map available for your unit for this model it would be version 8.15 but do keep in mind before purchasing that this may not solve your problem as the maps may not be updated yet to reflect the changes in your city it may take 2-3 map revisions before you see the most accurate data for your location
