Onkyo tx-ds656 stand by power light comes on volume control knob rotates to max but display or unit wont start

Try factory reset: while holding the(CD) button on front panel, press (POWER) button.
After "Clear" is displayed the unit should be back to its factory default. :) If this dont work for you take the unit to be checked by service . :)

I must have hit some buttons on the remote unintentionally - all of a sudden I lost the sound out of the left speakers on my Onkyo TX-8511

Reverse left and right speakers at back of unit
to verify if a speaker/wire problem. Also check

I have an Onkyo TX-8511 Receiver. The unit has power because the standby light is on, but nothing happens when I press the power button or try and turn it own with the remote. I have Onkyo HTS907 that...

You have two devices that won't power on. Doesn't that suggest a source power problem? Did they ever or never work where you are now or anywhere else? Or did you just come back from overseas and forget to set them up for U.S. power?

And you're not daisy-chaining the two units together, are you? That's a no-no. There's a wattage limit to what can be connected to the convenience outlets. Power amps are not usually supported.

Try isolating the two units and shoot each bug separately. Plug them in somewhere else. Disconnect speakers and try again.

C'mon back with the results.

Onkyo tx-vs515pro won't turn on

doubt that reset will fix your problem---but here it is if you want to try:
hold down the cd button and press the power button [at the same time]
test will [should] appear on screen for about 5 seconds--you need to unplug the set during this 5 second period. this resets the cpu chip.
hope it helps solve your problem.

Power up problem

try powering the unit right down by disconnecting from the mains supply. fire up after 5 mins and see what happens. There is a separate transfomer for the standby supply(small red light) An internal fuse may have failed or the thermal fuse inside the transformer. If fuses blow as sson as you fire up = output transistors hay be short circuit.
