Problem w/blue "bleed" on LCD TV screen (by 8 users)

posted by Jellybn on Dec 09, 2006

I have a 42" Sony LCD Projection TV KDF42WE655 (2 years old)...just recently there seems to be some blue "bleeding" at the bottom to the middle of the screen. Sometimes the blue area moves around the screen very slowly. I dont know how to describe the blue other than "bleeding."
I have the same problem.

I have blue bleed on my set. It started as two small areas at the bottom and has developed into an arch in the middle of the screen that is about 20 inches wide at the bottom. It is getting worse.

Mine does the same thing. It's a discontinued 60" Sony Grand Vega KDF-60blahblahblah. Sometimes it teases me like it's going away, then boom. Right back at the bottom right, it's blue.

I moved the TV out of my main room and swapped it. For a while it worked fine. I moved it back to the main room after roughly 6 months, and now everyday again. Blue in the corner.

When the problem was really bad, my TV would just turn off and back on intermittently like it was overheating or something. I haven't seen that in quite some time. But who knows... It's been a nightmare.

I thought it might be heat. Thought it might be electromagnetic frequencies from my RF remote or from lots of wires, or wireless internet, or the couple DVRs below it. I just can't figure it out

I also have a blue tine at the bottom of my 42 inch sony projection."KDF-42WE655. It is also starting to crawl up the left side of the screen slowly, It is about 10 inches up on the left side, nothing on the right side. I have been informed that it needs a new optical engine, the tv is 2 years old, was purchased from sears. I have heard that SONY has extended the warranty for this particular optical engine, is this true? tks in advance for any info...no1jukebox@wi.rr.com

THE SCREEN IS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE LAMP TO BE AFFECTED BY ITS HEAT IF THE PROBLEM AFFECTS THE MENU AS WELL AS THE PICTURE IT MAY BE DUST IN THE OPTICAL ENGINE

I also have a 42" Sony LCD Projection set and have had it for about 2 years as well. I have a blue bleeding that comes up about 1 1/2" from the bottom of the screen too. I looked closely at the bottom of the screen and it appears that the screen has become "un glued" from the grey plastic frame. It does not bother me because of its extent. (It is not that noticable, yet) However, if it does continue to "grow" I will definitely contact Sony for repairs. My suspicion is that the LCD screen is perhaps reacting to the heat lamps intense heat and it is "curling" inwards, thus the light is actually hitting the bottom of the LCD screen and not just the back of the screen. Check the LCD screen attachment to the grey plastic frame of the TV and see if it is pulling away from the frame as in my case. If yours is doing the same thing, I think it is an engineering oversight and needs to be fixed by Sony, in some fashion.

sony has added additional service coverage for this exact problem, as far as I know it is just on 2004 models.

I had the same blue problem and was just repaired under warranty last week even though my TV was [past the original warranty period. It required replacing the Optical Block. The serviceman said Sony has extended the warranty through October, 2008. If you are having this problem, contact SONY or your merchant now.

Sony has acknowledged this problem as being a defect in the optical block and has extended the warranty replacement on this part till december 2008. I have the kdf50we655 and had the same problem. It was repaired for free, but would have cost me about $1500.

i have heard of this problem with this model. there is a website. sonycrap.com where you can see the blue blood doesn't go away, it gets worse, and sony won't do anything for it. there is a class action suit that has begun to take names. i believe the wesbite is started by the lawyer filing the suit

I have a KDF 60 inch Sony, which "bleeds" at the bottom of the screen as well. The color also seems to be irregular near the left center of the screen.
