Question about Maytag Legacy Series Top Load Washer
I have a used 2003 Legacy top loader. Used it for 2 months then last night after a load finished, found the heart pine floor in the laundry room soaking wet. Tried a small load this afternoon with the front panel off. As soon as it started agitating in the wash cycle, it began leaking under the tub. Stopping the machine produced a near drinking-straw thick stream of water from under the tub. I then went to spin and checked the hoses and flow from the hoses. They were dry and appeared to be fine. I'm surprised the leak developed so quickly. Is this fixable? I'm pretty handy but have never taken on a washing machine. I have no schematic.
Thanks for any help.Save
Mine developed a hair line crack in the plastic tub on the very back. It is right where the water hits it when it is filling and I am thinking that might have had something to do with it since I have extremely hard water full of minerals which can be very abrasive. I thought that the tub was leaking from the bottom but close inspection showed that the crack was allowing water to run down the side and right onto that bottom metal plate and drip out. Im going to try and find a replacement or a way to patch the plastic, cant afford a new washer at the moment. If I find a solid way to repair it I will post it here when I am done.

After looking at various posts on your site, it seemed to me to be a gasket issue under the tub and the unit was going to have to be dismantled. I bought the set used, so I thought this would amount to more than I payed for the unit itself...maybe more than the both off them. So I did what I should of done when I bought these: I went to Lowe's and picked up a new sratch and dent set. They deliver this afternoon.
This is a great sight, but I hope I don't have to visit in the near future with a washer dryer problem. Thanks!
