Is the card under warranty? It sounds like it maybe a problem either with the card or the drives.

Don't bother trying to fix it, one of the semicondutors is partially blown out, you'll be just wasting your time and its just going to corrupt your operating system if you carry on trying to use it

How do i upgrade inbuilt graphics?

You probably need to go into the Bois settings and disable the on board graphics. To do this you will need to start by being plugged into the on board graphics and have the GeForce card plugged in. Turn the computer on and during the HP splash screen, you sill see some options. I believe the setup option is F10. You will need to press this key to enter the setup. You will now need to locate the video options and set the source to the PCI-E. This will disable the onboard and enable the GeForce card. Once you save this setting and reboot you will need to move your monitor cable from the onboard card to the new card and finish the installation in windows.

Hope this helps

Wires off graphics card into mother board?

The computer won't boot if there is no graphic present. If you did hook it up right and there is a fan on the graphics card, it should be turning.

Computer wont power up after graphics card inserted

Remove the video card.
Boot the system and go into the BIOS
Set the onboard video to either auto or off, or in some cases you can change priority
Turn off the computer, reinstall the video card and give it a try.

I have an acer aspire m1610, I'm desperately trying to disable the onboard video card in order to add a geforce 8500 but there's no way to disable the onboard video card via the bios and the computer wont...

Are You sure the graphics card is not defect?
When I installed a graphics card instead of the onboard
circuit, the SIS Mirage was disabeled automatically.
I have installation CD for the graphics, of course.
Also, I thought that disabeling devices could be done
through the control panel, "hardware devices".
