Just look on the back of the router and find the reset hole. It's small and you'll need a paperclip to put in the hole but you must unplug the router first then put the paper clip end into the hole and hold the button down while you plug in the router making sure you hold the button for about 20 seconds. Now you should have a reset router.
Hope that helps,
Henry

Linksys router password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I have a Belkin G Wireless Router and all of a sudden the wireless internet has stopped working. i have restored default settings to the router. the internet for the computer is working through the router...

Probably you have to turn on the wirelss portion. Go to Belkin and download a manual for the exact steps.

You need to navigate your web browser to the router, log in and make changes. I have included the highlights that need to be set, below.

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

I need to secure my home wirless network

1) Secure your wireless router or access point administration interface
Almost all routers and access points have an administrator password that's needed to log into the device and modify any configuration settings. Most devices use a weak default password like "password" or the manufacturer's name, and some don't have a default password at all. As soon as you set up a new WLAN router or access point, your first step should be to change the default password to something else. You may not use this password very often, so be sure to write it down in a safe place so you can refer to it if needed. Without it, the only way to access the router or access point may be to reset it to factory default settings which will wipe away any configuration changes you've made.

2) Don't broadcast your SSID
Most WLAN access points and routers automatically (and continually) broadcast the network's name, or SSID (Service Set IDentifier). This makes setting up wireless clients extremely convenient since you can locate a WLAN without having to know what it's called, but it will also make your WLAN visible to any wireless systems within range of it. Turning off SSID broadcast for your network makes it invisible to your neighbors and passers-by (though it will still be detectible by WLAN "sniffers").

3)Enable WPA encryption instead of WEP
802.11's WEP (Wired Equivalency Privacy) encryption has well-known weaknesses that make it relatively easy for a determined user with the right equipment to crack the encryption and access the wireless network. A better way to protect your WLAN is with WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). WPA provides much better protection and is also easier to use, since your password characters aren't limited to 0-9 and A-F as they are with WEP. WPA support is built into Windows XP (with the latest Service Pack) and virtually all modern wireless hardware and operating systems. A more recent version, WPA2, is found in newer hardware and provides even stronger encryption, but you'll probably need to download an XP patch in order to use it.

4) Reduce your WL-AN transmitter power
You won't find this feature on all wireless routers and access points, but some allow you lower the power of your WL-AN transmitter and thus reduce the range of the signal. Although it's usually impossible to fine-tune a signal so precisely that it won't leak outside your home or business, with some trial-and-error you can often limit how far outside your premises the signal reaches, minimizing the opportunity for outsiders to access your WL-AN.

5) Disable remote administration

Most WL AN routers have the ability to be remotely administered via the Internet. Ideally, you should use this feature only if it lets you define a specific IP address or limited range of addresses that will be able to access the router. Otherwise, almost anyone anywhere could potentially find and access your router. As a rule, unless you absolutely need this capability, it's best to keep remote administration turned off

Thanks
Have great day

avery you need to configure your router to avoid having people using your internet conection:

please provide the model and maker of your router and I can walk you through a desirable configuration. or if you want to try it yourself check on your router's manual as usually there will be instructions on what you need to do...

for you to have a general idea i suggest your read the following article that explains common things you need to set up like:
1. change the default SSID (the network name or name of your router/access point)
2. hide your ssid (so only you know the name and set up the computers you want manually to use it)
3. a network key/passphrase: so in order for other computer to join your network a key/passphrase or password is provided first
4. encryption: so your neigbors don't decipher what you're transmitting wirelessly.
5. configure your computer to access your wireless network after configure your router with the configuration you set.

if you have any questions post back and make sure to note the router model and maker

Someone is getting into my computer using my wireless system. How can I block my wireless so no one can use my internet? How can I secure it?

they way you do it depends on the wireless access point (router) you have in your home. look for the router manual as you will need this information to get into the specific configuration.

in esence you need to the following:

1. go to your router configuration page. (check your router manual for details on how to this)
2. set an administrator password for your router so only you get access to the configuration page.
3. change the default name for your access point or even better hide it. (set it so it's not broadcasted by the router)
4. setup wireless security (depending on your router your options are wep, wap and wpa2.. set it to wpa2 if possible) this is how your connections its encripted so it's evesdropping becomes difficult or not worthy if someone were to try hard. (now days almost everything is possible with the right tools).
5. make a note of you ssid (name for your access point) and your passphrase.
6. configure your wireless systems to access the access point (router) using the new ssid and the passphrase you configured.

post your name and model of your router and I'll help you getting the manual you need.

We need to know how we can do the conection to wireless network. We are only conected by ethernet cable but we need to be conected wireless. We have two laptops at hope.

your laptop must have wireless adapters and you should be using a wireless router or a wireless access point. if you're already using those devices, your laptops should automatically detect the wireless signal (look for the wireless icon, ususally it's located at the bottom right hand corner of your screen if you are using windows but if you're using mac, you need to enable the airport) and you just need to connect to it (note: you should enter the correct wireless password/network key if it's enabled on your wireless router).

hope this'll help you but if you have other concern, just give the exact model of the wireless router/modem/access poitn that you are using and the wireless adapters installed on the laptops

ciao!

I have a D-Link wireless router, it is a DI 524 model. Well I just recently had to reinstall everything on my desktop computer, which my wireless router and dsl pipe are hooked up to. I have a laptop with...

IF YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK ACCESS POINT IS CONNECTED BUT YOU CANT GET ONLINE,YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO YOUR DLINK ONLINE ROUTER SETTINGS PAGE AND CHANGE YOUR PASSPHRASE KEY WHICH YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE ACCESS POINT TO THE WIRELESS ROUTER.BEFORE YOU DO THIS THOUGH,OPEN UP THE NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIZARD ON YOUR LAPTOP AND VIEW"AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS".IF YOU SEE YOUR NETWORK LISTED,HIGHLIGHT THE NETWORK AND PUSH THE CONNECT BUTTON.WINDOWS WILL ASK YOU FOR A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD.ENTER THAT AND CLICK CONNECT.YOU SHOULD THEN GET CONNECTED TO THE WEB.IF YOU DONT HAVE A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD,THAT IS WHY YOU CANNOT CONNECT THRU THE ROUTER AND YOU WILL THEN NEED TO CREATE A NEW PASSPHRASE AT THE D-LINK WEB SETTINGS PAGE.GOOD LUCK.

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps
