Question about Jura Capresso Impressa Z5 Espresso/Coffee Maker
Jura Capresso Impressa z5---We keep getting a "Tray Empty" message on our machine. We can remove the tray, put it back in, get "Coffee Ready" and then when we put a cup under the nozzle, we get a "Tray Empty" message again. Is there a sensor somewhere that's goofy?
If the machine says TRAY MISSING it's the contacts at the back so clean as other people have stated, you can also use a cardboard nail file to clean the contacts at the back if there really skanky!.
If the machine keeps saying EMPTY GROUNDS even though you have, pull out the tray, look just inside the aparture where the tray goes top right at the front there is a small slot where if you look closely you can see a small white micro switch. This will be probably gunged up with coffee and the switch will be stuck up, get a can of WD40 and squirt a small amount up into the switch then poke the switch with a small screwdriver up and down until it moves smoothly.
Then replace all the bits, sit down, look smug and have a coffee cos you've fixed it!! :0)

What i do it put paper towel on the metal contacts, put the tray back in to the machine with the paper towel on it and then pull it back out. The paper towel will clean the slot inside the machine.

According to the Instruction Manual section 21 page 68 when this happens it is because there is a "solied metal contact at rear of drip tray" and you need to clean the metal contacts.

Oilerfan's paper towel trick worked fine for me. WARNING : use only one layer thick. If you use two layers or more, the tray may become stuck by the metal contacts. You will need to use much more force than wise or safe.

Or you can just cut a piece of card to the width of one of the contact slots and fold kitchen paper over that - worked fine
