Question about Frigidaire Dryers

1 Answer

Drum thumping I replaced motor in this dryer and it was not thumping before motor went out. I was wondering if there is a particular line up when remounting drum that I might be missing. Belt is on good shape and roller seems to be in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Why does it sounds tumble irregularly and clicking?

Dryers have a weld line that holds the drum together and this weld line can make a rhythmic "thump-thump" as the unit runs and the weld line bumps over the drum support wheels, I would inspect the drum for a crack at the weld line, and inspect the wheels to see if they are in good condition otherwise it may be a normal noise.

What is making mywhirlpool/admiral electric dryer sound loud and thumping noise

You dryer belt may be shot and a piece of rubber is missing making it jump while working. Needs replacing before it completely quits. It will eventually just break apart.

GE dryer DCVH515EFOWW thumping noise after heats up. Recently replaced front drum bearing and slides which fixed squeaking. Now having rhythmic thumping (no squeal or squeak).

DRYER MAKES NOISES.

A loose or worn BELT can make funny noises

Or the idler pulley that puts tension on the dryer drum drive belt could be worn out. If the pulley is bad we recommend also replacing the belt.

The glides on drum worn and making metal to metal contact.

The drum slides or glides support the front of the drum. As the drum rotates over the years, the glides wear out and then the dryer makes noise. Replace all of the glides as a set if they are worn out.

CHECK FOR LOOSE BELLOES inside the drum

Sometimes an item can get stuck inbetween the drum and the housing and scrape and grind making funny noises, things like coins, bra wire, nails, hair pins, etc sometimes u can just remove the cabinet and observe by turning the drum by hand or looking for scratch or scrape marks on housing.

The blower:

Clumps of lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing can get past the lint filter and into the blower wheel. If the dryer makes noise, and the noise seems to be at a very fast pace, there might be something caught in the blower wheel. In addition, the blower wheel sleeve might be worn out, allowing the blower wheel to wobble on the motor shaft. If this happens, replace the blower wheel.

The bearings:

The drum bearing supports the rear of the dryer drum. If the dryer makes noise this bearing might be worn out. Replace the bearing if it is worn out. Do not lubricate the bearing, the lubrication will attract lint and dirt and accelerate the wearing process.

The bearings TEST by moving drum by hand u may be able to feel loose or rough movement. And listen to sounds when turning it.

The drum rollers or castors:

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers.

Check for cracks, dryness, or damage and not engaging drum properly. Sometimes u can use high density LITHIUM BASE gear grease to re oil/grease them.

I have a Kenmore Advantage electric dryer m. 65762. It started to have slow starts and then quit all together wondering if could be the motor?

It could be the motor causing you the problem, but you can check it all at the same time.
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley. Maybe a faulty motor.
If you have to replace your drum belt, drum rollers, motor, and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch.
Then remove the top of the dryer, some tops clip on, other slide off.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove
the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket
with pulley, and motor with pulley.
Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go
to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum
not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum
rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3
in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting
noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots
on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise.
You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

I closed the dryer door and there was a flash (like a big spark behind the dryer and now the dryer doesn't turn on

Sounds like your Motor went to fault and grounded out.
To check your motor:

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a faulty motor.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the screws that hold the filter housing.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. Dryer makes a loud thumping noise when running

A thumping sound in your dryer could be caused by a flat spot on one of the drum support rollers. It can also be caused by a problem with the drum. An idler pulley on for the belt on the drive motor can also make a thumping noise when the dryer is running. Check to see if the cabinet is properly leveled with 4 feet firmly on the floor. Push down on opposing corners to check for play. Adjust the leveling legs if necessary.
Without a model number of your Whirlpool dryer, I am not able to provide much more help. If your dryer has the lint filter that pushes down into the top panel of the dryer, then here are a few tips for accessing the inside of the cabinet:
  • Unplug the dryer to disconnect electrical power.
  • Pull the lint screen out.
  • Remove the screws that secure the top panel to the lint screen housing.
  • Use a putty knife to release the clips on the front of the top panel (about 4" in from each side) that secure it to the dryer frame.
  • Hinge the top panel up and back.
This will provide to access to the inside of the dryer cabinet. Manually spin the drum in a counterclockwise direction and see if you can determine the source of the noise. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Whirlpool dryer.

Loud thumping noise

IT COULD BE THE DRUM BUT I WOULD INSPECT THE DRUM ROLLERS TO SEE IF ONE HAS A FLAT SPOT IN IT. IT MIGHT NOT HURT TO CHECK THE DRUM BAFFLES/PADDLES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT.

My new dryer is makeing thumping noises when its runningsounds likr a pair of shoes are in it

Depending upon the model the drum rests on a set of rollers or glode strips. If the drum has a flat spot or overly large seam then it will thump. If the thump is about once a second.

I have seen this a number of times on the Performa line. The drum needed to be replaced to correct it.

Alternately if there is a flat spot on a roller it will sound faster than once a second.

This is usually covered under a manufacturers warranty.

ASKO t700 dryer thumping sound

usually whin you get one thump (or a quick double thump) you have a dent in the roller surface of the drum itself. Easiest way to check this is to unplug the unit and take the top off by removing the 3 torx screws in the rear, then lifting the top off. Once the top is off look at the very front edge of the drum as you rotate the whole thing by hand. If you see any irregularities on the surface, thats your problem. If you see nothing it could be a bad motor or roller, but its unlikely if its happening in the same place on the rotation evry time. What has usually happened with dents in the surface of the drum is that the unit was set down too hard (or dropped) and the wheels it rests on dented the metal they ride on. If thats the case the only solution is to replace the drum or live with it .Good Luck!
