Question about Danby Refrigerators

1 Answer

This is a Danby refrigerator model D1707W. It stopped working last night. I turned the thermostat inside the fridge from 5 to 6 and kicked the compressor a couple of times. It stared to work. Today the same problem. It was not cooling and compressor was not working either. I set the thermostat to Max (7); still did not work. I took the thermostat out and shorted the red and black wires connected to it. Compressor started to work and still working. I thought I was dealing with a faulty and needed a new one, but then I realized that our fridge might have the auto. defrost feature which might have a faulth timer or so. Now I am not sure where the problem lies. Any help?. (the thermostat part number is 2-60061-002 / 3ART5D74) Thanks in advance Mohammad

Fault is the thermostat. auto defrost on a fridge (but not a freezer) is a function of the thermostat

Cold freezer air is not properly being diverted to refrigerator section. Check out damper and controls for same.

My refrigerator is warm but the light inside turns on and i have it set to cold, it just stopped working today

Have you unplugged the fridge sir? checked for any electrical disconnections? dust clogging your tubules in the back? Enough space between the wall and fridge in the back? sometimes these will do it. Your fridge needs air to oxygenate the tubules so that it does not overheat and not work.

Ice collecting above drainage tube. I removed the ice, the drainage tube was not clogged. A fridge repairman said problems like this were sometimes caused by warm air coming up the tube and suggested to...

The draining tube / tubing somewhere has a gooseneck similar like the one under your kitchen sink. That is to prevent air from coming up the tube. The area above the draining tube is supposed to be kept ice-free either by the closeness of the defrost heater or it has itself a heater built in.

My fridge and freezer stopped working last night. I have model number FRT21HR6AB4. I can feel air coming out of the freezer and fridge, but its not cold air. any suggestions?

Is the light on inside? If yes, it could be thermostat, defrost timer or compressor start relay. All are worth fixing. Worst case would be compressor, but check those other items first.

Pressed a button, now fridge won't work

you have pressed the defrost button that is why the compressor stops and would not come back on. there could be a temperature sensor on the thermostat or a timer where in it would only reset back after the temperature of the fridge warms up. try to remove all the food and let is sit for a while, plugged and watch if the compressor would kick in after about two hours or untill the fridge warms up. if the button is stuck, you may have to spray lubricant in the thermostat or replace the thermostat .

Fridge stopped working suddenly

Sounds like the relay (start device) on the compressor has failed.  This is a very common problem especially for models that are 3-5 yrs old.  I would replace that first.
