Battery/AC adapter problem

As of late I have been having issues with what I believe is my AC adapter. I would loose my power connection randomly. I'd slightly wiggle the cord and it would start working again. Over time it seemed to get more and more touchy and I'd have to be very carefull about moving the pc with the AC on. Then just resently after leaving the pc to charge I came back to see that it was not charging or on AC power. The battery died and I can not get in back on. However when I do push and hold the start up button the orange light (the one that looks light a lightning bolt) blinks 3 times and thats it. So it there something wrong with the end of the cord on the AC adaptor? Battery problem? or something else internaly? Thanks for any imput!

If you know how to weld you have to open your laptop find your ac jack and weld it. I had the same problem with my sister's laptop and i alredy fix it. Try to not bend your cable too much.

Good luck

It's more than likely a problem at the notebook motherboard, where you push in the adapter, this is common as the soldered contacts can break. You would be best refering to a repairer.

You need a cable retention device like the jerkstopper mentioned in this video. . . Keeps the cable from jerking on the fragile power pin.

Common issue with AMD based hp laptops.

Before doing any of the following from this point, please remove the ac adapter and battery from the unit.

Remove the battery and try to power on with the ac adapter.

With the battery and ac adapter removed, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to a 1 minutes. We are trying to remove all the excess power from the computer, remember capacitors can still hold power. Now power on the computer with the battery and ac adapter.

Remove the ram and reinsert the ram. Sometimes the memory somehow manages to get a bit loose overtime. Try to power on the unit and see if turns on.

Try to connect to an external monitor to determine if its hardware issue by just connecting only with power adapter. If it works, then its screen and screen connection issue. If it doesn't work, then its motherboard/video problem.

Battery/Ac adapter issues for Sony VAIO Model

So I gather the laptop does not run when the battery is in and the AC adapter is not connected? Laptop batteries tend to ware down over time and will need to be replaced as they end up not being able to hold any charge. Look online for a new replacement of the battery under the model number of your laptop

I was playing a game and it randomly turn off. It was on the ac adapter and everything. I cant turn it back on or get the ac afapter to get my laptop to charge. What is the problem?

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

Hope this helps.

My laptop wont start even though the light indicator in the charger is on

You may first try performing the steps mentioned below:
1) Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook.
2) Verify the correct AC adapter is being used, and not a third-party replacement AC adapter.
3) Do not connect the AC adapter to a surge protector or extension cord.
4) If the DC jack on the computer is loose or damaged, the computer may require service.
5) Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged, or the LED is not lit or continuously flickers when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced.
6) Attempt to turn on the computer normally.
7) Press and hold the Power Switch for 5 seconds.
8) Remove the battery.
9) Disconnect the AC power adapter.
10) Press and hold the Power Switch for 5 seconds.
11) Connect the AC power adapter.
12) Attempt to turn on the computer.
NOTE: If the computer turns on without the battery, connect and charge the battery for 24 hours.
13) Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer.
14) Attempt to turn on the computer.
15) Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that was installed in the computer.
16) Attempt to turn on the computer.
17) The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue.
If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.

1. First remove the Battery, clean the Battery contacts with the pencil eraser and insert the Battery in the Computer.

2. Connect the AC Adapter (Battery charger) securely to the Computer and the Power outlet.

3. If the issue persists, try connecting the AC Adapter to different Power outlet.

4. Make sure that both the connecting points (DC IN port on the Computer and the Power outlet plug) are securely connected and not loose.

5. If the issue persists, try with different AC Adapter.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dell Inspiron 1505; Battery does not charge; DC jack is loose..

The loose connection for the AC adapter means the motherboard needs to be replaced or the AC adapter jack on the motherboard needs to be replaced. (With Labor, it is about the same cost to buy a new motherboard as it is to have the old one fixed)

Motherboards are available on EBay for around $100

Sony vgn-s1xp won't power up

Hi

Follow the procedure below to troubleshoot no power or the VGN-S1XP (VGN-S360) does not turn on.

While following this procedure, note the LED status at each step. This will provide additional information for further troubleshooting.

NOTE: Some computers are designed with hooks above the LCD screen that secure the lid when closed. A switch inside the holes below the touchpad [picture attached] detects when the lid is closed and latched. If the switch is stuck, the computer may not turn on properly. Check to make sure the switch is working properly.

Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook.

NOTES: Do not connect the AC adapter to a surge protector or extension cord. If the DC jack on the computer is loose or damaged, the computer may require service. Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged or the LED is not lit when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced.

1. Attempt to turn on the computer. If same, press and hold the Power Switch for 15 seconds and try again.
2. If issue persists, remove the battery; disconnect the AC power adapter; press and hold the Power Switch for another 15 seconds.
3. Connect the AC power adapter. Attempt to turn on the computer. If the computer turns on without the battery, connect and charge the battery for 24 hours.
4. Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer. These devices include, but are not limited to, a modem, floppy disk drive, network connection, USB device, printer, keyboard, or mouse. Attempt to turn on the computer.
5. If issue persists, remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that was installed in the computer and attempt to turn on the computer.
6. If same, remove all RAM and attempt to turn on the computer. Note beep codes and pattern.
Ensure to remove battery and disconnect AC before opening up the laptop to remove RAM. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions should also be adhered to.

NOTES: The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required. (In this case, the system board and or other parts may likely be faulty.)
